𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐍𝐎𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐄𝐋𝐒𝐄 𝐓𝐎 turn and no one in her life outside of her significant other to turn to, Hayley knew her appearance at his door wouldn’t go over too well, but she knew staying where she was might end in a tragedy; namely, her own demise. She was accustomed to being hurt. The pain was nothing, bruises were simple reminders of a stupid decision or a time she talked back too much or her voice had been too loud, inciting his rage. Covering up that shame came easy enough. A little make-up here would disguise the savagery of the relationship. It was her norm, up to that night where he didn’t aim in spots that were easily covered, his anger erupting in something far more severe. Hayley felt lucky to simple escape when he seemed too tired to raise his fist again or swing his foot into her ribs, but her choices as of where to go were narrowed to a single person: her only friend. But he would ask questions and if there was one person she couldn’t lie to, it seemed to be him. She could better lie to herself, telling herself every morning that this was what she deserved, but she couldn’t tell him the same. She had no idea what she might tell him after knocking upon his door, arms wrapped around a sore middle and the corner of her lip split in a way that made the forced smile she put on, painful to maintain. “H-hey… I know it’s late, but…” she didn’t want to voice what happened. Instead, she stood there, feeling more and more guilty by the second. “I’m sorry. I just have no idea where else to go.”
