Many stories shall come to an end in terms of how you perceive it. Every perspective is different, unreliable, uncertain, untamed, but one thing remains clear. Doey wasn't ready to make a change, change is scary, terrifying even. He remembers the first time he met you, curled in pain as he watched you bleed and bile was threatening to spill from your lips. Most scientist would have died by the toy's hands, instead Harley Sawyer held you close then carried your incapacitated form away, he let that moment sink in as to how he treats people. Compared to children, he was an experiment waiting to be used or abused. Just like his family. The second time he saw you was a different rushed perspective within your notes and head, to him it was a lasting memory of who was truly gentle. Your baskets of fruit feeding him, Doey had discovered he actually likes Mango and starfruit. A sudden touch of your hand made him shiver with anticipation akin to being hurt or questioned for his progression.
Every visit to see each toy felt so surreal, you never came around during the day, he notices your light steps within the dark, that dim flashlight which would then be replaced with a lighter. Every toy was so fascinated with how your caretaking aspect would raise them to become more vigilant and aware, "Listen to them for now, then strike.." What exactly did you mean? Kissy Missy wasn't one for fighting and even then after her separation from Huggy. It was a swift change from ignoring or hiding in confinement, to peeking out every night.
Not once in your notes did you describe these moments as nighttime gatherings, the care each toy received was something adjacent to what a parent is supposed to do for their child. Ollie even recognized these traits, your caring, firm, avoidant, secretive nature? No not even he knew what or who you could be. It didn't represent you, he knew what you looked like but after that it was hard to decipher. The hardest part was the hour of joy, sometimes you Ollie would wake up. He would see you, this same occurring dream.
You staring guiding him to be with Poppy, his stilts stumbling slightly just for him to grasp how easy it is to walk in them. Poppy would reach out to hold his and guide him? Not the other way around: Prototype Ollie would then glance back at you with wide eyes, somberly witnessing you wave him off before turning to a worker. This worker, he couldn't tell what exactly who or what this worker was as a human. But It felt as is a torch was being passed to this person, who then walks towards him and Poppy then guides them forward towards the other children.
When he awakens, he sees it: "fLoRal." It sat before him then offers a hand, he stands up and passes Floral. No offense to be taken but it did go out of it's way to gently hold Ollie's face and then ease his sudden jolt of awakening. He needed to watch Poppy, handle the heretics, deal with you and Floral, every form of betrayal from each person left Ollie confused, what exactly did you say to make everyone suddenly change? No simple answer would even solve his desire to to be free of this pain, by then, it was gone. Floral left for Lily, if he knew that means she did as well.
Lily was sitting in her room, that same everlasting pain took a toll on her mental state. The need for an out just to feel herself twitch as a sting arises over the body. Floral watches Lily, that sense of pity rising once more then leaving as the doll excitedly seeks out the prototypes attention. "Maybe he'll finally accept my proposal of a tea party. If I catch Poppy, he'll deem me his favorite." Her laughter was boisterous, insane even but Floral can't even fault this toy. However, the woman within her is the reason why many of these orphans lack so much memory to their lives. It climbs down to meet Lily, without a word Lily hugs Floral. Their eyes met, she ran and hugs it without so much as a second thought.
One last hug, Floral didn't forgive the woman: Ms Gracie, but Lily…..it wanted Lily to have a fresh start. "May we meet you again." Lily squeezes Floral, it leans on Lily's shoulder with a small smile. Before the doll slowly goes limp, at times like these this would be a good reason to shed tears but for Floral this was merely another step towards fixing this place. Even if it means remaking their very first friend, carrying her form in a bridal position while they lack a nuance of understanding this emotional emulation of sadness. Floral didn't dwell, in fact it was hopeful, they place Lily in your hands then watch them leave.
"Quinn…Yarnaby." The boy, grunting and growling with his now removed teeth finally relaxes as a hand strokes his fur down, claws shifting and body twisting with forms of comfortable reliance for this mother. Once more you lean on him, his suffering, far too great and it was about time he rests: "Putting him to sleep forever?" Poppy walks over to you, her bloodshot eyes trying to find any sort of hesitation.
"Yes, you all aren't in pain like him, so..This maybe for the best." Poppy tears up at your answer, having cried so many times after showing their ally the truth. It, hurts, now she is losing her one parent figure and there is nothing she can do to essentially change your mind.
"Maybe we can…Can't you stay, Harley could leave.." She hugs your leg, laying on you tiredly.
"Harley and I are the reason you all suffered, even if it means I'm stuck with him forever, that doesn't mean I won't be here. I just, can't leave beyond the surroundings of playtime. The orphans will be safer here until they go out into the world. My Funds, Harley's funds will cater to them as long as they can." Poppy nods, sniffling again before the soft sounds of her bawling alerts Kissy. The giant doll cuddles them both, Doey soon joins their hug while the worker watches in awe. They look at the note Harley gave them before he left to let them continue their cascade to help the other toys, some toys may have been beyond saving but Yarnaby. The regret in Harley's eyes not for him but for you, the worker understands now.
'Project Risk: This project revolves around myself and Harley, my love for him is complicated. But the plan remains the same. You, worker will take the torch and help these children until they are ready to finally sleep, I won't leave forever but I will remain here in the factory as it gets cleaned and rebuilt from the inside out, Poppy and Oliver are both essentially at the pinnacle of their lives as perhaps immortal, perhaps. So they will get the choice to remain or leave, I do not forgive Grace for her crimes so we all agreed to take her human assets and use them to culminate the plan. Through my research it was in need of a human, this human will not only culminate a new fix for Oliver but also be used as an example for how everyone can finally be at peace. When I say one of us will not make it I meant it, staying here with he toys is the only option, feeding them with this land's resources, behind the factory there is so much forest, water, land to grow, a lack of humanity. It sounded surreal and impossible, but it was true. Do not worry, Harley won't be a problem: Like myself he has nothing out there besides this place.'
The worker read that note many times, and you were right about everything but, they didn't know where exactly was this place you spoke of for everyone to rest. Maybe later they would see it, regardless of when or how, they were formidably adaptive to the circumstance surrounding playtime co and these toys. Such curious eyes, and no signs of wanting to eat them, a few toys did crawl up and flop down comfortably beside the worker. Seemingly tired, worn down, this needed to end if things were to ever change.
"Mz wants you to take the torch of guidance for the orphans…in exchange you live in Harley's home. Can, you do that?" Poppy asks the worker, the worker at first nods but then they drift a bit with uncertainty, children are a big responsibility. They just wanted to see their friends or anyone human, maybe that's why you and Harley chose them. It was essentially a symbolic decision to lend parenthood to them, as it was unpredictable and not really a given choice on some occasions. But neither of them forced it or asked they simply left it as an open ended choice, the worker hasn't seen these orphans yet either.
"Okay, we're here. Deep down, further down is where…these toys, exist The Wrongside Outimals, my friend Giblet lives down there with Chum Chompkins. They've been watching Prototype for awhile and…" The walkie talkie finally went off, cutting Poppy off from her explanation, you stop to stare at her, did he know? Floral was supposed to distract him.
Poppy answers without an ounce of worry, Doey even had to look over to see if she was okay. "Poppy? Poppy! I-It's me Giblet, I don't know if you know but something is happening down here." She sighs in relief, nodding to you and the other toys. Dogday breaths out in relief while Catnap breaths slowly, the smiling crew was reunited but they made the choice to rest for good. It was a brief acknowledgement between you, them and Poppy, Hoppy waves you all off while Doey shifts to meet with you.
"I, I think I'll stay around and join you folks. Dogday told me he would remain awake but Catnap, Picky, and Crafty they wish to rest. Bubba, Kicken and Hoppy intend to help out once…" The worker notices how he drifts off, understanding that he would also be losing you, it was a hard pill to swallow but they in turn hugged him. He accepts the warm embrace, then follows behind to help with stretching and reaching locations further down below.
"Jack, Matthew, Kevin." you call them, Doey perks and gave a small pleading look, you hold his face them nuzzle him.
"I treasure you three, you all may not be a pot of gold….but you are all such good children. If things get too intense, please: Do not hesitate to run or call me." Doey nods at your instructions, reassuringly holding your hands he, continuing forward was a simple task that involves Poppy splitting up.
"Lily's home is empty, Floral will remain and it will help you, I need to reach Oliver." Poppy still couldn't believe it, after everything, it was Ollie? Did Ollie even truly exist? You didn't trust him and she felt uneasy but now it made sense, how he knew the plan ten years ago, how he knew where she was. Poppy felt so irresponsible with her misguided choices, but now to have an adult working with her. That wave of relief slowly rises to her eyes, once Poppy reaches Floral's location, it helps her down then the two sit down to wait for the others.
"Doey, worker, you two will be focusing on getting to the house, prototype knows where we are but, I'm certain he doesn't know the plan. Only that Floral and I betrayed him." They each split up with Doey right behind the worker.
"Hey, sorry for scaring you when it came to…ya know, Mz asked me to give him the sleeping herbs for..ya know." The worker nods but they couldn't help but wonder how this herb was even made, as it the poppy flowers mixed with something else. Something's were best left as a remedy of the unknown, they both continue ahead Doey was using your herbs to put all the Wrongside out toys to sleep. You couldn't believe Oliver would do something like that, it was frightening. But there is no need to dwell on it, everything will be over, once you reach the house, Giblet meets the worker and Chum was safe. All of this would be over.
"You're truly doing this?" Harley holds your hand, pressing a kiss against it, still as gentlemanly even under pressure. Pleasantries aside: He was very worried and that was a shock since he wasn't one to worry unless it affected, him.
"I won't die, I stated…vaguely that Grace would be the one to take the fall to remedy the plan, Floral intends to use the remains of Grace, the brain will be harvested and such while the organs will be there as healthy replacements to keep Ollie alive. Then, Floral intends to make a new Lily with plants and place her brain inside, she will have all of the memories of Lily, not Grace…Floral told me it wanted a friend, so this would be a strange yet…good ending for Grace in the sense. Morals aside, Ollie will have a new body to represent the concept idea of his being, but not immobilized ." The two walk to the home, there Floral, Kissy and Poppy remain with no signs of damage or harm, Giblet ran to Poppy and gave her a tight hug.
They pass it and head straight to Ollie's room, his claws tap on the counter, then claw down angrily and he looks over at a cat doll. You recognize it as Preston but show no sign to care, instead you move to Ollie's side. "Ollie..Oliver." He sits down, and his claw presses to your chest.
"You and her betrayed me." He accuses with pure sadness.
"I had a plan that didn't involve bloodshed, but it involves you sleeping." Oliver looks away, not even bothering to fight back or even harm you.
"Why…why doesn't she…" You caress his face to pertain the paternal figure he was seeking for years, and it made him sob angrily. So you both hug, Harley moves aside, letting the others peek in, Poppy hesitates at first but then ran over and hugs her older brother tightly. Kissy following suite with Doey, the worker watches with a curious glare, you…
You were willing to give this child a chance over your son, everything he did. It felt saddening but the letter slowly began to make sense. You weren't just going to stay, you were going to die here with Quinn, that was somber in a beautiful way. Giblet and Chum watched the scene unfold before the hands of yours slowly move down and gently help guide everyone. The children leaving with Floral and the worker, while you and Harley remain, his embrace against yours never ending. You enjoy it, leaning in his arms: "I'm, terrified…"
"They're in good hands, aren't they Harley?" He nods, letting you sniffle with no more tears to shed.
The worker, held Prototype's hand: This procedure was long, Floral wasn't hesitant, it was focused, certain to save Oliver and Lily. It understood that this was a strange decision to make on your end, regardless of these choices it never once questions your ideas. It knew the plan would work due to the herbs, the plan had to work.
Days passed, time was moving and they were anxious, when Oliver woke up. His giant eyes blinking slowly, then he touches his new face, Poppy was in awe, his gloves were to smooth and gentle, his legs were, long, stilts! Lily was right beside him, hopping excitedly then she hugs Floral before nuzzling the other happily. The children laughed and admired the two new toys, then they look at the worker, who was in awe, close to tears. To see him so happy made the worker feel at ease.
Oliver walks with Poppy, the toys watching him stumble and halt. It was just like that dream again, but it felt less somber, he looks at the others, while some feared him. Doey and Poppy had looks of firm approach, "The orphans."
"Up ahead, the worker will take them home and, we'll remain here." Oliver inhales then gave a nod, Dogday and Kicken run past him excitedly. Hoppy nods at him then she guides Bobby further ahead with Bubba, he slowly came to realize Catnap was gone.
"It was for the best Ollie.."
He knew that, but he still failed in the end, he hurt so many of his family. While there was no regret for these workers he. The idea of the trauma he may have caused still etches his soul, he even glanced at Poppy and she was holding his hand while Kissy held her up.
She then gave Poppy to him, while Kissy went to Huggy, finally seeing him after he was MIA for so long. They share a long hug and then sit down, letting the others get ahead. At the front entrance, where it all happened, you smile at the worker while they gathered the last orphans. Seven children, the location to Harley's home and the funds…with written consent, it amazes them how Harley even had the technology to even keep up with that. But he was clever, you chuckle as you lightly joke. "He was planning a retirement fund for us."
"Hmph.." He grunts, then closes his eye when you hold his hand.
"Once you leave we'll head outside to the exit…" The worker nods, leaving in silence with the children. With he promise to visit so they could learn from you and Harley, you wave to the children, then turn to the toys head for the exit at the end of the top floor. They follow behind, your hand pressing down on the exit, giving it a strong push: Oliver was the first to exit with Poppy, the sky was bright, the clouds covering bits of the sun as light rain touches his face. Poppy reaches out, gasping as droplets touch her dress, a Dogday ran ahead with Hoppy, their laughter fills the land, Doey was in awe at the sight and he could see so many colors, fresh air fills him. Giblet even took the chance to sit down and enjoy the breeze, Bobby lays comfortably with Kicken then they both snuggle into Bubba's arms.
You and Harley watch them, carefully allowing Huggy and Kissy to exit, Lily and Flora were sitting under the shade watching the sky clear seconds later. "It's so beautiful.." Mommy's voice was faltering and she could feel herself smiling through the want to cry in your arms. But she instead places down the mini huggies and relaxes beside you, Oliver stares at the clouds, breathing slowly then he looks at you. Watching you sit down, Harley joins beside you and gave the sky a small head tilt.
"I feel, at ease." Harley comments, Oliver looks at him then at the sky and lets out a huff of air before laying back beside Poppy, Doey joins with Lilly and Floral. The children watched as the clouds pass while you and Harley get up to begin working inside the playtime factory. The hands already cleaned everything, now came the part between you both, the plants. Harley watered the plants while you pour the dirt, the factory's machinery now replaced with greenery, a healthy set of plants, crops, herbs. He then asks you something.
"When they all leave, what will be of us? When the children grow up. What will the worker do?"
"The money will remain with them, and they can continue life or come back. This place will change by then. Those children will be at ease or continue to live."
So that was it, you and him continued, though things weren't the same and it will take time towards forgiveness, you held no regrets. The plan was done, and when the children went to bed in their own hammocks or beds. They went to sleep without a fuss, you laid on your own bed beside Harley, listening to the ambience of the rain. "Are you, satisfied with the results?" Harley asks.
You think on it, then without a second thought you answer. "I feel at ease."
