The writing on the wall remains the same
Not to make everything about Randall again, but I’m still sad he wasn’t even referenced during Azran Legacy.
Could you imagine if he’d met Aurora? His previous experience with Azran ‘mummies’ involved being attacked by them at Akbadain. He’d ask Aurora a billion questions about the Azran, but he’d gradually grow to care about her as a person outside of her civilisation? Would he bond with her over being a fellow amnesiac, or about living in the shadow of her ‘creators’? (Like Randall with his father…) He’d try to add a lot more flare to her ‘disguise’ and he’d make her laugh with magic/circus tricks.Â
Maybe Randall would actually want to unlock the Azran legacy for a period of time, but after learning the truth about the legacy, he’d realise nothing is worth THAT.Â
Maybe he’d recognise Desmond as Descole or he’d get suspicious of Emmy sooner, because he’s been manipulated before, but Layton and Luke (understandably) still don’t completely trust Randall because of what he did in Monte d’Or. Or, at least, they don’t trust Randall as much as Emmy.
Randall even somewhat empathises with BRONEV when it comes to the whole ‘being obsessed with the Azran power’ thing. He almost lost his life trying to hand the mask to Layton when they were 17.
Then, when it comes to the sacrifices, Randall wants to step in for Luke or Aurora, but Bronev won’t budge, so… everyone except Aurora and Bronev burns in the light beams, I guess.
As much as I love Randall, I do think he got let off waaay too easy at the end of MM (he was so rude to Angela, he kidnapped Luke for no reason, and he tried to FLOOD A CITY WITH SAND), but he could’ve turned it around during Azran Legacy.

Here's a small sketchdump for my PL medieval fantasy au!! I'm still developing it but I think I have a good concept going. I'll probably post more about it soon. I plan to color the other sketches later. Layton is a knight, Luke is his squire and I was trying to depict Claire Foley as a princess/noblewoman in the last sketch, but I got a bit carried away trying to mimic the painting I based it on. I was thinking Dr. Schrader could be a monk that does illuminated manuscripts. Am I cooking? Anyway! I really hope you guys like my idea and are excited :)
