Why Kanade isn't at fault for her father's illness.
With Kanade's draft bloomfes being revealed recently, it had me thinking about how Kanade has grown to think of herself as this grim reaper figure who brings death and despair to all her loves ones.
On the outside, it may seem obvious her mother's death as a child was unavoidable, but what about her father's? The narrative employs the explanation that it was Kanade's fault, for playing on her father's keyboard and accidentally producing more beautiful music than he could. As the audience, we're not told to believe that Kanade is an unreliable narrator, but the signs are there... Why is a child being blamed for a grown man's stress related brain death?
Let's think for a moment... If Kanade was never born. Her mother would still be sick. Her father would still be medically prone to overworking. He likely would have just gotten caught up on another job instead of on replicating Kanade's talents. When you have the ability to work yourself to death, it doesn't matter the job, the stress related disease will catch up no matter what. He valued the culture of work over his health, to the detriment of his child.
Kanade will find healing not in saving someone's life with her music, but by accepting that she was dealt a bad deck of cards in the game of life. That what happened was tragic, but ultimately not her fault.
