Hi there! I’m rather new to succulents and was hoping I could have some help with confirming identification and health of a new succulent (2 plants I believe are the same thing) that I rescued from facebook marketplace.
I believe these are Echeveria lola based on the information found from the links in your faq. They were previously potted in a glazed ceramic pot with what appears to be standard potting soil which I believe is incorrect and may have led to root rot?
The more full one looks as if it is salvageable, but I genuinely am not sure about the rather wilted one. Any advice on how I can save the wilted one if I can? I do have plans to re-pot these today as this styrophome cup I received then in is definitely not the right place for them to stay.
Thanks for your help!

SuccyGirl:
Not positive on the ID but Echeveria is correct at the very least. I would rinse the roots and soil off of them both and make sure they dry out. Take off any mushy roots and make sure the stems are clear of any discoloration that may be rot. I’m not positive the wilted most one will make it but who knows, succulents can surprise you! Once rinsed let them dry totally bare root for a few hours before repotting, and yeah the standard potting soil definitely didn’t help them at all. And If you’ve been in my FAQ hopefully you know the correct soil they should be in, so that’s good.
Honestly succulents can bounce back once they’re given the correct environment and care, it might take a few weeks before you see any progress but as long as they’re not declining further I think you’ll be fine. More light (gently and gradually increased in exposure so they don’t burn) and just time and patience is all they require.
I believe the fuller one won’t continue to grow in the middle, but it will put off pups/new heads along it’s stem. It just looks like the middle is shriveled and dead to me. The more shriveled one will either just die fully or also put out pups on it’s stem, usually they do better if they have some leaves still to photosynthesize with but sometimes they can do it with the stored energy they have in their stems.
Good luck to you!!

It is now midsummer, in the Northern Hemisphere. At no time in the rest of the year is the light so hard. For nice colour photographs, you often need to be up early or very late. So, how about a month of monochrome? This is the gist of the open participation challenge Pixii is proposing. Jersey mono 1 – #MonochromeAugust As always with Pixii news, I’ll keep this purely informative 🙂 The…
