@pittres gets a starter from Mel
She is upset and desperately trying to not be.
There’s a lot of adrenalin in this job, most of the time it's intellectual adrenaline. Needing to solve the problem in front of you, figure out presentations, tests, treatments, they were all part of a puzzle that could help someone. That was what she took joy from in this job. Being able to use those pattern recognition abilities to help.Â
The adrenaline she hates comes from the anger, the kind where other people's anger makes your heart thump against your rib cage and your hands to shake. There’s a the innate response, where your body wants to either fight or flight…or freeze, and Mel chooses the first option.Â
She needs an adult, an adultier adult.Â
“Dr Langdon?” Mel asks, breathless, her hands wrapping around each other in a desperate attempt to steady her hands. Frazzled. “I need-” she realises how that sounds, pauses, backtracks, “can you come see this patient with me…they’re…” trailing off Mel attempts to find the word. The right one and yet under pressure fails. “Kinda mean…kinda mad.”
