Apologies if you’ve answered it before, but where do you find clothing references / how do you plan out the outfits you draw? I love the styles and clothes you choose
most of my reference material i find on pinterest. i know it's a shit site that people repost things to constantly without credit, but in terms of pictures of outfits i think there's little harm in using those for inspiration or reference. it's just that pinterest's algorithm is really good about showing you new posts based on posts you are viewing or have already saved, so searching for reference pics is usually very easy.
i also just really love drawing clothes! the folds of them, the details, the personality they can express... and i like to think i have an eye for what looks good. as for how do i plan out the outfits in general, i think about the character and what they would like wearing and what would fit their personality. so for wwx i always tend to go for more alternative clothes, like punk, a more grungy kind of streetwear, but i also think he's the kind of guy to just wear a hoodie and basketball shorts to go to the corner store. i find lwj harder to nail down because i can see him in really elegant, simple outfits, but also really fashion forward statement outfits, but also goth fashion, etc. so i'll draw him in anything from jeans to turtlenecks to flowy dresses to sheer fabrics to blouses with bows. youll never catch me giving him grey slacks and a white button up, though
i don't always work off reference images directly, for instance: i had the idea of drawing lwj in an oversized cropped cardigan and a tennis skirt. The cardigan came to me first because i was thinking about possible outfits for modern lwj that aren't button downs/blouses or turtlenecks. then i started thinking about what kind of bottoms would look cute with that, and i landed on the tennis skirt. but of course, i couldn't find any perfect references for that exact outfit combination, let alone with a male model, so there wasn't one reference i could work off of. so i basically started gathering many different pictures of oversized cropped cardigans & tennis skirts, picked my favourite ones, studied the way those garments look (folds, material, etc), and then drew them on lwj's body (ive been busy at work but i really want to finish that soon!)
Yes I really like nb WWX! I personally also hc Mianmian, Wen Qing, and Wen Ning as nb. Sometimes my friends make fun of me for hc so many characters as nb but oh well it makes me happy. Also me and my older sibling are both nb so I really like the idea of the Wen siblings being non-binary. Wen Qing as someone WWX looks up to. Idk I like the idea of the three of them supporting each other like that.
As far as NHS I agree, I’ve found so few fics that write, well /any/ trans characters very well. NHS tends to be the only one I see written as nb which makes me sad. And there’s for sure a racial element to it. I’m white so I’m can’t speak on all of it, but god some of these people are just gross. Especially when writing WWX

honestly as someone who's nonbinary, it's incredibly easy to project being nb on most characters and that's perfectly fine. as for nb nmj - i gotta say i haven't ever thought about it? but i dig it. he can be transmasc as a treat :)
ugh yeah i only really see people make nhs nb in fic and such and it just doesn't sit right with me, bc people tend to write him in such a particular way that can be quite uncomfortable. and in theory i really do like nb wwx but i don't trust this fandom at all when it comes to making him gnc (making him the 'wife' of wangxian etc) so i tend to just avoid it altogether, which sucks :/
I really love all your art about WWX and LWJ being so supportive of the juniors, especially the lesbian juniors. The headcanons of the lesbian disciples teaching them how to do their daughters hair and stuff makes me so happy. And I imagine that they would be supportive of trans and genderqueer disciples as well. Trans lan Wangji rights.
I also like to imagine that NHS is non-binary, so Wei Ying asks them for advice on how to make the guau disciples feel included
thank you!! yeah i just really like the idea of lwj and wwx being a safe space for children and young disciples. they both grew up in a rough world and went through war at a young age and neither of them had particularly good parents so i really think they would do their best to be good parents and guardians.
trans lwj!! also while i like the idea of nb nhs it can get slightly suspicious to me when people only hc him out of the whole cast to be nb. because he enjoys art and fans and doesn't like swords or whatever? and in fics people tend to make him a walking stereotype which i don't really enjoy, and there's definitely a racial element that can come into play here. im sure someone else has spoken about this in a more eloquent way than i can lmao. so yeah i like the idea but only if it's done well and if he isn't the Only nb person in the cast. i like nb wwx and transmasc nb lwj as well. or nb lesbian wen qing....
Please tell more about the conspiracy theory that there are no real forests
As far as I can tell it originally comes from this hour+ long youtube video by a flat earther. I have not watched it but I gather he makes the argument that all our "forests" are but shadows of the real thing. Real forests were incomprehensibly large and the only remains of them are petrified tree stumps (weird shaped mountains). Personally I find the thought fun to divorce from its origins because looking at this guy's comparison images and imagining the gigantic ur-forest is reality enhancing in a way that really tickles me. It's great!

i watched the first 6 episodes on viki and then switched to dramacool because the rest on viki is still locked behind a paywall and i didn’t want to wait a week between episodes. viki’s subs are better though!
edit: i just checked and it’s on youtube as well. same sub quality as dramacool. dramacool still updates faster!
