I saw someone on the tag yesterday saying another reason Izzy hates Stede is that he’s a little bit attracted to him too and that is such a top tier galaxy brain take.(I wish I could find it again to credit but you know who you are, props to you).
Izzy Hand’s homophobia is the kind that is hate directed inwards, like he hates Lucius because he is able to openly have sexual relationships with other men and Izzy can’t. And he hates Stede because he’s “replaced” him as Ed’s sidekick/number two. And he can’t stand that Ed is more open and happy than he’s seen him ever and that Stede is the one that is responsible for that. And he hates that Stede is the one who has caught the great Blackbeard’s attention and love despite Izzy having been by his side for so long. He hates Stede’s version of masculinity that is so far from what he knows and he hates that he’s attracted to Stede’s version of masculinity (and he hates himself that he’s attracted to Stede)
