On May 23rd, 2016 I made a trod to Pinnacle in St. Catherine; the birthplace of Rastafari. As well as the first self sufficient Rastafari community. Pinnacle is heritage site as it been recognized by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust. It was founded by Leonard P. Howell, known as the "First Rasta" or "The Gong." Important to note that on this day it marked the 62nd anniversary of the destruction of Pinnacle by colonial authorities in 1954. So it was truly an honour to help in the beautification of such a historical site. Before helping out, I took a tour and stood on the ruins that used to be a great house. Then and their it hit me. How monumental and spiritual this place was. It was such a warm and inviting place. The drumming, sweet reggae music playing and ibrations under the tabernacle, everything was just perfect. I now know why they fight for pinnacle has to continue no matter what. It is a part of Rastafari and by extension Jamaican culture. Thus it needs to be protected just like any other heritage site. I'll be making more trods to Pinnacle more in this year.
