MUNDAY RP Q’S. ☼: Which tropes do you find overused/boring?
I think the trope (?) that I find most overused and boring and, frankly, pretty ableist is just the idea that antagonists do what they do because of mental illness.
“Character x has npd and that’s why they are abusive and awful!” “Character y has bpd and that’s why they isolate and cut off their victims!” “Character z has szpd and that’s why they crush the hearts of anybody who even thinks about being their friends!”
Like… people with mental illness (especially personality disorders) are already demonized to hell without everybody assuming that every antagonist also has a mental illness. It’s incredibly harmful, imho.
Like. Give me neurotypical antagonists who commit the acts they do because they are aware of what they are doing and enjoy it. Give me mentally ill protagonists who do good things because of their illness or in spite of it (ex. some ppl with bpd having an Extreme Wealth of Affection to share). So often it seems like it’s the reverse, and it’s incredibly boring to see another “crazy” villain that I’m expected to be interested in just because they’re “crazy”.
“Please tell me your hand was in my pants because you like me, not because you wanna steal from me?” he said in a very uncomfortable tone. What was happening? At least she wasn’t some old crusty dude.

“Show me it again, one more time.” She had nearly wrapped her head around the concept, but there was one point that was still confusing her. Alchemy had never been her thing, but she was determined to get back at it. At what point was this supposed to get easier? Did even get easier? Perhaps Paine wasn’t the right person for the skill anyway, but her skills had been lacking. It had been a while since the last time she had tried mixing anything complicated.
