so i’ve been on tumblr since forever and took a break and then recently came back! however i'm still very much stuck with 2012 tumblr trends (lol) when graphics and picspams were just *chefs kiss*
i know trends change and all buttttt i really miss the creativity and beauty of picspams and graphics so...here is a picspam tutorial for y’all! stay tuned for more tutorials to come!
step 1: pick your screencaps
make sure they’re high quality
colorful/vibrant already
easy to mask (masking is really important here)
also figure out what color scheme you want to do! personally i like to organize it by warm colors on one side and cool colors on the other side but you can mix and match like this picspam
step 2: cropping
you can def choose whatever sizes you’d like but for my picspams each cap is 270px by 150px and the full size is 540px by 600px
step 3: getting textures
ok this is where the fun starts! although colorings are important, textures i'd argue are even more important and can elevate your picspam to a whole new level! and can even be used as a coloring (will explain later)
light leak textures / gradient textures such as:
textured textures (yes you read that right lol) such as:
step 4: base coloring
always start off with a base coloring on your cap which essentially just needs to be things like brightness, contrast, and/or vibrance etc. also a neat trick i learned is duplicating the cap layer and setting it to screen which can be used as a base coloring
example of duplicating layer + setting it to screen (it just brightens a bit)
step 5: the colorful coloring
so here is an example of taking a dull cap and making it super duper colorful <3
here are all the adjustments used:
vibrance: +100 (adjust as needed for your particular cap)
selective color: this is REALLY important so based on the color you want to bring out click that selective color. so for this cap i wanted to bring out yellows so i clicked the yellow tab and set it to +100
basic brightness/contrast. i usually like to add more contrast as it makes colors pop
another selective color layer
then a layer of a soft brush of yellow or a light leak on the corner and i set it to screen (screen is your bff here)
and then a few more layers of color balance, i just shifted it to be more cyan so i can bring out some greens + brightness etc,
this is what I mean by soft brush or light leak (adjust colors as needed):
step 6: coloring but also using textures
for this, same as before, have a base coloring and i also added a layer of solid yellow color and set it to ‘color burn’ so you don't even need to color anything!! the layer of yellow + color burn or even dark, multiply etc will do that for you
next, slap on a texture of your choice and set it to multiply and you’re done
tips:
always always use a mask on every layer so you can easily erase adjustments where it shouldn't be
if you want to add more colors use gradient map and set it from black to whatever color you want and then set it to soft light or screen and adjust opacity as needed
selective color if your bff here
light leaks go a long way! using light leaks or just soft brushes and setting it to screen or soft light make picspams pretty :)
use topaz labs if possible to sharpen! it just looks super clean
color fill is also great to use to make a cap more warm or cool toned
you can use light leaks, gradient textures, gradient maps, or solid colors and set it to multiply for a hassle-free quick coloring
this is my first tutorial so apologies if it doesn't make sense! im happy to answer questions just shoot me a message <3
and don’t forget to tag me in your creations folks! i'd love to see them

bringing back old editing styles: picspams (no textures needed!)
hi everyone!
so i previously posted this picspam tutorial which was more ~texture~ heavy but if you’re looking to make a picspam that really just focuses on the colors and is simple, then keep reading! :)
example:
first screencap tutorial: changing the screencap to a color you want that is different from the original lighting
step 1: put a base coloring on your screencap
in this case i added a brightness layer and also a photo filter layer set to the cooling filter so that the screencap has no yellow lighting and more cool lighting
step 2: color the background in using the brush tool
in this case i also changed the color of her eyes) + set it to soft light (you can adjust opacity as needed but i usually leave it at 100%)
step 3: add another layer and use the brush tool to make a light leak + set it to screen
the brush layer should look like this, you can save this if you want and change the hue to whatever color you need!!
the results should look like this:
step 4: adjust the layer with brightness, vibrance, etc to your liking
pro-tip: use gradient map and have it be black to the color of your choice. so for me, i made it black to purple + set it to screen and adjusted the opacity
final product:
now this looks different from the picspam above bc i forgot to save my psd (stupid of me, i know lol) but i hope this helped! also i use topaz labs for sharpening and that's it!
alright next..coloring a picspam that already has the color you want!
step 1: add a base coloring + selective color
add your basics like brightness, vibrance, curves etc. AND selective coloring! for the selective coloring, increase the yellows to +100 and for this, i increased the cyan of the reds but you should just play around with the selective coloring to your liking
step 2: add brush layers
using the bush tool, i used light orange and dark burgundy and set the light orange one to soft light, and the dark one to screen
final product:
just add some more contrast or vibrance if needed and you’re done :D
overall, i recommend using the brush tool and setting it to soft light + screen along with using selective color to make the colors really pop out!
hope this helps and as always, my ask box is open to all and any questions <3
okay can i ask: HOW did you color the gorgeous green alicent cap and pink cap here? I'm SO in love post/695248863493324800/house-of-the-dragon-104-king-of-the-narrow
hi!
first off, thank you for the kind words :)
here's a general picspam tutorial: x
picspam inspo/prompts: x
here's a tutorial on how to color these house of the dragon caps:
let's start with the alicent cap:
step 1: fix that dark lighting
add a curves or brightness layer
add a color filter layer - this will help with the yellow lighting & these are my settings:
step 2: light leak textures
after that i added textures which were these and changed the color to only green by using hue and saturation adjusment + set it to screen
and that's literally it! basically just used a lottttt of light leaks and textures that were green but the main component was the color filter that made the cap have more cool tones. if you wanted to make the coloring red for example then you’d use the warming filter on the color filter adjustment! :)
alright moving on to the next cap:
step 1: fix that lighting again!
like the prev. cap, i used a curves layer and color filter layer except i used the violet filter
step 2: add gradient map layers
use the gradient map adjustment layer and set it from a dark to light color of your choice + set it to soft light OR screen (adjust opacity as needed)
step 4: add light leaks
for this specific cap i only added the light leaks on the corner (same one as above + changed it to pink) and set it to screen
and that’s all! hope this helped :)
as always, my inbox is open to any questions or comments!
First tutorial on tumblr, so please bare with me. Tut under the cut
.
{★} You want to make sure you click ‘page’ for this, as this is where the templates are stored.
{★} Second, make sure you look for the template with the two spaces, that’s the look we’re going for.
{★} So you want to make sure to change your size. I usually go for 600x600 but the choice is yours.
{★} Next is adding the images. You want to make sure you go to the folder where you have your images you want to use are stored.
{★} Once you’ve found them, simply drag each one separately to one of the boxes. They should just automatically go in. You can resize each image if you click once on one of the images to stretch it etc.
{★} Now onto the fun part; making it pretty! Click the ‘edit’ button at the top to go into edit mode.
{★} Welcome to the edit menu! As you can see there are a lot of options you can play with. Take your time and go through them to customise and colour your image. If you make a mistake, there are undo buttons at the bottom right.
{★} Once you are happy with your edit, now it’s time to add your text and such. Click the ‘T’ icon.
{★} This is the text menu.Type out your text and click ‘ok’ once you are done. You can also resize & rotate the text by clicking on the text once it’s on your image.
{★} If you’re happy with your final product, click ‘save’ on the bottom right hand side, name it and you’re done!
I hope this helps and if there are any problems, feel free to drop by my ask box.
So a lovely anon asked for a tutorial on how i went about making this aesthetic picspam for the GONE series (which yall should read 10/10 recommend) Also this is a book so there is no real photo content so we have to go digging.
pls note that 1. this isn’t going to be about that particular edit bc i didnt save the psd but in this tutorial I will be taking you through all the same techniques i used (edit that i made while making this is hereeereeree) and 2. a lot of my photoshop skills boil down to trail and error! I’m also kinda bad at explaining things and this may get slightly word heavy.
let’s get started under the cut - also i use photoshop cs5 but this should work for any photoshop i thinkkkkkkk! letsgoooo! please like or reblog if this helps ya
- first things first: know what you want to edit, know what book or character etc you want to edit. this sounds really simple and kinda stupid now but there’s nothing worse than realising halfway through you want to change character bc it means u have to start all over :( for this edit imma make now along with you is for the GONE series as well, i will once again be making 4 picspams (only gonna show u one tho) (the four characters i’m going to do are lana, quinn, dahra and edilio for those who care)
- so when i do 4 characters in one post i use 4 different colours for each person (blue, yellow, green and red) for this edit i’ll be showing you how im going to make the edit for lana who i have allocated to be green!
- now to begin, because this is a book edit you are gonna have to find a fan cast to use, you can do this by googling face claims, through other peoples fan casts, through instagram, through modelling agencies etc etc it takes a while for some characters but its worth it because a face can make or break your edit. for this edit i am making i am using the face claim of sunny sofiani who i think i found through a modelling website but i cant remember (im a loser i know)
okay so here are the dimensions i use: note: i use old tumblr dimensions your full canvas is gonna be height:520px width:500px and each singulat image is gonna be height:130px width:250px
1.
- so to do this first picture i went to sunny’s instagram and found this picture.
- i took this picture and cropped it down to 250x130
- i then added a simple psd with blue and red main tone things idk the fancy words but u can use any psd you already have or have made etc i just really like this one
- i then coloured in the background in green and set to colour opacity 90% and fill 70% because the image looked too yellow
- i still thought it looked too yellow and didn’t blend well so i added a layer of curves and a layer of levels with the following settings:
- i then added her name (lana.) to the image using the font surfing capitals - i get all my fonts off dafont.com :) i set the font to 70% opacity
- flatten the image and u r good to go + drag it onto your main canvas (the 500x520 one) remember you can always reposition it later
2.
- i then decided i wanted another picture of sunny on my picspam so i found this one on her insta
- i simply cropped the image, and dragged the same psd from before with a few changes
+ next is where it gets slightly tedious, you have to find the rest of the pictures. there are many ways you can do this; simple google searches, websites like this, weheartit and pinterest, and also some tumblr blogs hold great content for aesthetic images - some of my faves are; x x x x. remember that these images must resemble the character in some way e.g in my last edit for jack i choose computers because his nickname was computer jack, i choose comics because he is super nerdy and i choose broken glasses because he wears glasses but since it’s a kind of “anyone can be killed/ kids alone with superpowers trying to kill each other” type of book i assume they were broken at some point. I also like to have at least one image of words that aren’t the character’s name on the graphic but this once again must relate to the character or else they become worthless e.g for brianna i used the words “i’m sorry i had nothing to say that night” because she ran away when dekka told her that she loved her; i used “how to disappear” for taylor because her superpower is to disappear and reappear somewhere else etc etc. As well as having these images and words relate to your character you should also make sure that they fit the colour scheme of your graphic :)
3.
- for this image i found this one
- i then took the books off the background simply by using the quick selection tool, once both of the books were fully selected i used these settings on the refine edge option although it can be different for each image so i usually play around with the settings
- then once i did that i cropped the image to the correct size i needed
- i then filled in the background a shade of green that i lifted off one of the books and then dragged the psd on top making a few simple changes to remove some blue tones because i wanted it more green
- flatten and move to your big canvas :))))))
4.
-the rest of your images will be made this way :) (dont matter whether its a pic of words or just a pic)
- grab another image off the above websites and drag the psd onto it, making some changes depending on the lighting and original colouring :)
- add a black and white gradient if it pleases u
- flatten
- thats all it is
- simple
and now here is the final product:
save as a .png and u are good to go (after you have made the rest if you are making a set of course)
you can view the full finished thing here :)
also thanks for reading this and i know it got a bit word heavy but i like to ramble, if you need anything else feel free to shoot me an ask or message me :)

Uhm, i’m assuming you’re asking for a tutorial? I’ll do my best but honestly-- i’m the absolute worst at explaining things! Feel free to come back if this didn’t help at all! <3
So, firstly once you go into photoshop [ i use cs5 but I think this can work on all ] you’ll want to open up a new document/canvas. If you want, you could always download these templates that rphelper made, if it makes things easier? I personally love to do 500x480 with 250x120 boxes but its fully up to you! Some people like bigger boxes and some like smaller, that just depends on preference. c:
After that, [ if you don’t use the template ] then you start making your boxes. I personally like to use the rectangle button, just because it makes everything neater. If you go by the size that I did above, then you’re going to end up with 8 boxes that you can arrange to fit inside of your entire canvas perfectly.
Then all that’s left is so insert your pictures! I like to gather mine from my dash or favim. You can totally stalk my ‘faceless’ tag if you’d like! I have plenty of pictures in there.
Then that’s about it, I believe? You can stick it in a PSD to make it super pretty and to try to make the pictures look more coordinated. I don’t reblog much of those, but you can look through this blog and see if you find any that you like??
.. and yeah, I think that’s it! I hope this helped c: I’m not really an expert on making them, but i’m super flattered that you asked me <3 Also if you want to request one for your character-- then feel absolutely free to and I can try to make you one!!
My English is horrible so I'm sorry if there is an error
Choosing the images, after that make a 250x140 document or take a template ready.
Start with the b&w, select the image, add the action and make a base psd, only with some adjustments (curves, brightness, levels) and finally the gradient map b&w :
Once you have done all the b&w (in total there are 4) go to the color you want, mine is a sand tone. Make another psd base or use the same first and finally add the gradient map color that you prefer:
(#fad489)
finally place your images and is ready.
If you liked give like/reblog, ENJOY!
Eu usei a cor #f362bb.
