For meditation, I think it honestly boils down to practice and experimentation. Some people can’t do it in complete silence, it just won’t work, so they have to be doing something that forces them to focus, or relaxes them enough that they can work on their spiritual senses peacefully. Every now and then I’ll just stare at a fixed spot, tap my finger and listen to the tapping, if I just can’t calm down. 

I don’t know if you saw the other day but I reblogged this awesome sound thing and I used to try and look for a lot of those sounds to meditate with because they’re just excellent at canceling out your own thoughts, but there they all are, mostly, in one spot, its seriously pretty epic and there should be at least one sound in there that could work to cancel out distracting thinking.

I don’t know if you work with crystals at all, but I have some hematite, and amethyst, that seem to help me focus a bit better when I have trouble. I like to hold them on an open palm until I think I feel them pulsing, or lay down and put them on my forehead and focus on that feeling. You could also try meditating on specific sigils, runes, or symbols, whatever matches closest to your practice, or to the deity you’re wanting to seek guidance from. Hot baths actually help me too, because when I get out I don’t really want to do anything else but lay still and meditate and talk to my deities if I even want to think at all. And because I’m so relaxed, I can feel more delicate shifts in energy and possible communication that way.
