Thiiiiis... is not a subject I ever wanted to touch up upon, but... I... need to get some stuff off my chest.
Just some things to start off, I'm not Catholic, I'm agnostic, but I have gone to Catholic schools my entire learning career up until high school and I'm not gay.
I ended up taking a different bus home since the different one came before my usual bus. The bus I took today was stuck in traffic and the bus driver let us off before the stop since it was taking too long. I normally pass the state capital on the bus, but this time I just decided to pass it on foot.
I soon found out that the possible reason as to why there was so much traffic was because there's an anti-gay marriage protest going on at the capital. This was one of the biggest protests I've seen in a while, too. It pretty much wrapped around the whole block of the capital if you add up both sides of the street.
There was actually a pro-gay marriage protest yesterday, but that one didn't receive nearly as much car honks and cheers as this one. Probably because it was a Sunday and probably because churches are kinda big communities.
So, essentially, I ended up walking behind protesters all the way home and about halfway through, I was seething.
So, just... a little note before I go on... this is the internet and everything, so, you know, everyone has their opinion... quit reading if you want right now if you know what's coming, just... yeah. Be civilized for a little bit while I go through this.
The biggest thing that bothers me about the argument against gay marriage is the whole, "God doesn't want it, so everyone else shouldn't have it, regardless of religion or beliefs." And... well... like... huh? What??
Like... whatever happened to religious tolerance??? Not everyone has to think like you...
My mom, who's also against it just says its wrong. Okay, sure, it goes against your worldview, I see how that can be a thing. I respect that...
But denying someone happiness even when it doesn't hurt anyone seems like a real jerk move. Yeah, you may not like it, but you're not partaking in the act of same-sex marriage, it's... not really any of your business for lack of a more polite term. Yeah, someone may not have the same beliefs and practices as you, but that doesn't give you the right to impose your own ideals on someone.
I'm friends with some people who are gay, that's fine; I want to see them be happy and it's just really frustrating that people won't let them be happy because of what other people think.
I don't really have a cohesive way to end this, but... yeah. I just had to get something off my chest. Ugh.
