My last day as an intern at the Chrysler Museum of Art … A bittersweet feeling😕

All the interns had presentations to do today in front of our mentors, gallery hosts, and fellow staff members. Everyone did fantastic … except for me. I was so nervous giving my presentation everything I wanted to say I didn’t, I stumbled over words, mispronounced words, I flew through my whole presentation not giving any details and the sad part about all this my notes were sitting right next to me but my mind went blank once I got up there, completely forgot it was next to me smh safe to say my presentation was shit.

However, I’m glad I met the people I met and experience everything I experienced. This is definitely a learning and growing time for me and this opened my eyes to a lot of things. I know for sure that I want to still be a curator in a museum but I need to research what graduate program would be best for me. I now have my time back to myself even though school starts in 14 days😑 (what summer break?!) *turns all alarms off*

Week 8 has been the busiest week for me. As you see I forgot to make a post, it was that busy. STEAM Camp was last week and it was an everyday event. Every day I went into the Chrysler I had to take pictures for the camp. STEAM is a program for middle schoolers and the abbreviation stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. The students were all very smart and fun. I stayed for majority of my shift each day.

I started on Tuesday taking pictures. The kids were painting on glass and were shown how to make glass at the class studio.

On Wednesday they were learning how to build a robot and eventually taught their robots to draw.

On Thursday they got to walk around the museum for the beginning of the morning then were taught about printmaking which I thought was so much fun for them.

Friday was the day we had to help set up for their own exhibition to put on for their parents and loved ones.

This week I got a little freedom from sitting at my desk all day, every day. I got to take pictures of the installment of "Prometheus” by Giovanni Battista Langetti. I didn't realize how long of a process that could be. I've hung pieces up before in the Wise Gallery on campus of Norfolk State but those were smaller. Watching and waiting for them to hang Prometheus was a process. The picture/painting its self is pretty big so it took 2 & half people to hang it. Had to make sure I got the right timing to take pictures as well.

Wednesday I went to the Glass Studio at noon where they have daily demos. That was a lot of fun. It was much easier to photography in there than I thought it would be, because it was a lot of sunlight and windows. I stayed the whole time because I was really enjoying it. Watching and taking pictures.

I finally got to go to Third Thursday last night at the museum. It was very chill. I liked it a lot. Being able to walk around the museum (which I do in my down time anyways) but my boyfriend got to walk around with me. He also met the other interns :)

This morning I had a meeting with one of the curators here at the Chrysler Museum. The meeting was basically about how I should go about my education. As I mentioned before I want to be a curator of a museum and eventually own an art gallery. She gave me some wonderful advice and even suggested schools I should look into. But she did say that it depends on my focus and that would determine which school I should dig deeper into. Her words made me think .. If she doesn't tell me the bad I won't expect it when it comes but if I'm informed now I'll be prepared for it when it does come. I appreciate people like this in life. Now, its time for me to do my research on grad schools.

The Education Department had Family Fun Friday today. I got a few photos during this activity but this one has to be my favorite <3
