Deserved Better Prelims: Phop (Playboyy: The Series)
"Spoilers - Everyone deserved better in this darn show, but Phop not only deserved better in his story (his death - WTF), but in the writing of his story (him being the ??? - more WTF). The writing of this show had several gaps, but this character just took hit after hit, so the final reveal fell flat since it did not make a lick of sense to what the past 13 episodes showed. I wish there was more fix-it fics of this show because there are a million ways to rewrite his story so it makes sense instead of leaving us with this incomprehensible mess."
Did Phop deserve better?

Dew, let's go together (2019)
"Before the sky turns bright
Before feeling the warmth of sunlight
Before the flowers bloom
Before having a sweet dream
I've never had anyone in my heart
Till your love came
And made me see the brightness
I've never had anyone beside me
`Til your crazy mercy came
And motivated me
To live...
In this mad world."
Love breaks boundaries of gender, age & time.
I think I will remember this one for a really long time. It probably isn't the best that I've watched and it has many flaws but it's also something I've never seen before.
I found this movie accidentally and watched it only because of Ohm Pawat but it gave me back a lot more.
The whole sequence of this film with the cinematography and music is overall very pleasing and comfortable however the storyline hovers on discomfort, misunderstanding, hurt and confusion. The town where it is set is the most peaceful background but it encompasses disruption and fear.
Paired with this setting, Ohm's wonderful acting gave it so much life. His usual cheerful self made his character so precious and loving. The emotional scenes were heart wrenching and rookie actor, Nont played his part really well.
The lovable character of Dew, the disconnected, uncertain character of Phop set in the 90s and their forbidden love for each other. 23 years later their love continues to be forbidden. Times change, people change but with changes new stigmas are introduced.
People have mixed reviews about the second half of this movie but I personally felt a lot of depth and emotions there. Love doesn't necessarily mean romance or sexual interest. I liked their friendship, the way they grew together, and the comfort that they found in each other.
A scene that crosses my mind every now and then was the comparison between the past and the present at the train station. That time when Dew failed to reach him and the time that he could. It was really well done and when they finally met each other at the station it was the most beautiful reunion.
It's a movie that deserves a chance. Yes it could have been better but I really liked the way it was portrayed.

Update on BBC People’s History of Pop!
Further to our blog post last year, we thought it about time to update you on the project at the BBC to document the people’s history of pop music.
The project is collecting memories and memorabilia from music fans and they have created a dedicated website allowing people to upload content for inclusion in the series. Over 3,000 audio, video and photo items have been uploaded to the website. Check it out here.
Episode one of the previously announced four-part BBC Four series People's History Of Pop will be presented by Sixties fashion icon Twiggy on Friday 15 April.
From the BBC press release:
“The series charts the UK’s popular music heritage from the mid-1950s to the mid-1990s - over 40 years of incredible British music - through the eyes of music fans. Independently produced by 7Wonder, uniquely, the series is based on memorabilia and memories crowd-sourced since summer 2015 from music fans across the country. Episode one covers 1956-1966 and will be presented by the face of the 1960s, Twiggy.
The programme will celebrate the decade in which we created our very own pop culture. It hears from skiffle players, fans of The Shadows, Liverpudlians who frequented the Cavern at the height of Merseybeat, Beatles devotees, dancers on Ready, Steady, Go!, mods, lovers of ska, bluebeat and Millie Small, and fans of The Rolling Stones.
Twiggy says, "I'm so excited to be taking part in the People's History of Pop and telling the story of all that pop music meant to us in the Fifties and Sixties. This series is seen through the eyes of music fans, from lovers of skiffle to rock 'n' roll, pop to ska, and rhythm and blues to folk… it's the precious music we all cherished, danced to and went giddy over. And music can evoke such strong memories. In fact, I can remember like it was yesterday, being one of those screaming girls at a Beatles concert. At age 13, I went with a friend to see them at Finsbury Park Astoria. My lovely Dad was going to pick us up afterwards, but at the end of the show we went to the stage door to try and see the group and so I wasn't where I said I would be, and Dad couldn't find us. He was frantic with worry but eventually found us and drove us safely home. It was a night I will never forget.”
Stories uncovered in episode one include a young Lonnie Donegan fan asking Lonnie back to his mate’s parents’ house so they could have an impromptu skiffle jam - and he said yes; what it was like to go to a recording of legendary music show Ready, Steady, Go!; and a schoolgirl's dream comes true when The Beatles turn up at the pub where her mum was a waitress - but will her mum drag her out of school to meet her heroes?
Unearthed pop treasures include a recording of John Lennon’s first-ever recorded performance with his band The Quarrymen, at a fete in Liverpool on the day he met Paul McCartney for the first time - which viewers will see Twiggy listening to at the legendary Abbey Road studios; rare acetates of Merseyside musicians recorded by Percy Phillips (who also first recorded The Quarrymen once Paul and George Harrison had joined) in his living room in Liverpool; and Please Please Me in stereo – from a very rare pressing uploaded by a contributor.”
A yet to be announced episode two will focus on the 1966 to 1976 years. The programme-makers would love to hear from people around the country who have treasured mementos from that time period - everything from early reggae memories to heavy metal, Northern Soul, or glam...
We’ve contributed to the 3,000 items and we're looking forward to the programme in a couple of weeks time!Check out the trailer below.
