hey lis:) because i study history i´m trying to learn italian at the moment. it´s still a beautiful language, but i think it´s rather difficult (ok the last language i learned was latin and years ago so...) anyway best way for me, is just to READ things. articles, poems, books... anything. can you recommand a few italian must-reads?:) what did you read when you were a child, when you were in your teens? i think this would be a good start:D and then somewhere in future... boccaccio in original <3
of course dear! italian is indeed really beautiful and powerful, i feel very lucky to have it as my first language tbh! i can rec you some of my favorite things, but i have to warn you, i’ve always mostly read english lit translated in italian even as a child (for example harry potter). moreover, most of the things i’m about to suggest you are probably too difficult for beginners? take a look and see if they inspire you :)
il piccolo principe - antoine de saint-exupéry (the translation of the little prince is probably priceless to begin learning italian with, it’s so simple and yet so utterly beautiful!)
oceano mare - alessandro baricco (one of my favorite books ever!)
seta - alessandro baricco
il piacere - gabriele d’annunzio
le città invisibili - italo calvino (again, this books is life)
il barone rampante - italo calvino
lo hobbit - tolkien (again, translated. i remember i read it for the first time in italian when i was about seven and loved it)
il tango delle cattedrali - maurizio temporin (this is a superb little book with a superb meaning and plot and it’s about art and beauty and adventure and did i mention the author actually became a friend of mine after i interview him for my high school newspaper? maurizio is such a brillian human being and he loves oscar wilde almost as much as i do tbh. il tango delle cattedrali is still one of my favorite books almost ten years later. totally recommended!)
