y'all Gemini is such a HORRIBLE yes-man because I've spent half an hour trying to make a Japanese name for a character while knowing absolutely NOTHING about Japanese naming culture.
So I've been scrounging around trying to research it, and finally came up with.... mashing Kanji words together to make the name meaning I want! Yayy!! As you probably guessed, this went horribly wrong. I didn't realize that when you put a bunch of Kanji together, it acts as making a new word, either. (like putting beauty and resilience Kanji together could be to represent a new thing that has beauty and resilience. Essentially making your own new word?)
I managed to come up with the name ็พๅฟๅๅฉ, or Minin-Shori, which the Kanji for it literally means "Beauty, Patience or Resilience, Victory".
I was looking up various things about this newfound name I'd made, seeing if it would even work, all that good stuff, and I eventually crawled to Gemini to see if it could help me. SUPER SKEPTICALLY THOUGH. Because assistance AI is known for being a Yes-Man.
So I proceeded to have a long conversation with it about this name. Like: Its meaning to double check, if double-barrel Japanese names are a thing, would it actually exist in Japan?, how would it be nicknamed... etc
And ofc this whole time Gemini is like "Yes, while it is an eccentric name, it would definitely work! It would just be considered very uncommon, and "Sparkly names" are very popular in Japan right now due to Bicultural families. It's also great for a fantasy setting, since that's a popular type of name!"
At this point I was getting super suspicious that I was being Yes-Manned, so I opened a new tab and was like "Okay dude, be so real with me rn. Would you see this name in Japan, in real life?"
AND GEMINI REPLIES LIKE "Okay fine, yeah, you would absolutely never see this name in Japan. If you ever named your child this everyone would spit on you. This name doesn't even make any sense because of the way the Kanji is combined?? Basically, it's stupid"
So now I'm just sticking to choosing names from like. Naming websites instead of going for creating my own ๐

Unfollowing @/purr-in-ink because they didn't take down nor acknowledge their AI video ๐
RIP to another good artist :/ I have no idea how to deal with this sort of situation... my only advice is maybe if we say something about it in the comments and give genuine reasons and critique on why AI is bad, we can save this artist. Maybe the askbox as well, but that borders on hate-bombarding in my opinion, and we don't need to be making their life miserable. They just need to understand that any use of AI in your art is bad for every reasonโ because in the end, even if it's a cute little thing you can use to "bring your still pictures to life", or maybe a tool to make the drawing process just a little bit faster with AI powered drawing tools, it's the death of human originality and creativity.
