For @phichuuriweek Day 1: Firsts! The first time Phichit cried on Yuuriās shoulder, basically. Even sunshine is sometimes shadowed by clouds. :ā( Yuuri is not sure what to do with a crying Phichit so hesitant hug it is.
At first I was thinking of doing a first kiss or a silly sleepover but I draw toooooo slowly and I was already working on this anyway and it fits??
(Why is Phichit crying? I think something happened with his family back home and he could do nothing about it and everything just frustrated him and by this point he was comfortable enough with Yuuri so--)

āYuuri, youāre cheating!ā Phichit whined as he leaned on his side still balancing the controller in his hand somehow as he continued to halfheartedly play in his sideways position.
āCome on stop being such a sore loser,ā Yuuri smirked as he managed to score again. āYouāre just saying that because Iām winning.ā
Phichit pouted and slithered closer and head butted Yuuriās thigh. His skin was so soft and he wondered if Yuuri would mind if he placed his head in his lap.āYouāre only winning because youāre cheating! God the things that I have put up with living with you! I ought to just leave you!ā
āYou put with me?ā Yuuri asked incredulously. āYouāre saying that while you wiggle on the floor and pouting like a five-year-old?ā
Phichit gave him an offended look and put his hand on his chest indignantly momentarily forgetting all about the game they were playing and opened his mouth to reply when he suddenly noticed the numbers on the screen and realized that he all but lost considering that he couldnāt possibly close the gap between him and Yuuri now! (not that he had much of a chance, to begin with). He let out a defeated sound and wrapped his arms dramatically around Yuuriās waist causing the latter to almost drop his controller.
āWha-Phichit whatāre doing! Iām cannot play like this!ā Yuuri protested his face turning red as he tried to pry Phichit off of him. He tried to ignore how Phichitās lips brushing against his exposed skin made his heart race.
āYou have already won, what more could you possibly want?ā Phichit turned his head burying it in Yuuriās clothes. āYou already defeated me. Do you also want to laugh and rub your victory in the face of my dying avatar? Yuuri youāre so cruel! Crueler than I could have imagined!ā Phichit nuzzled his head further into Yuuriās side.
Yuuri couldnāt help but laugh partly because he always found Phichitās overdramatic antics hilarious and partly because he was ticklish. āPhichit we need to finish the game! You promised no distractions! Besides how can I rub my victory in your avatarās dead face if I havenāt won yet.ā
Phichit bolted upright into a sitting position his arms still wrapped tightly around Yuuri. He stared into him his chocolate brown and realized not for the first time that he could stare into them forever. They were so pretty. āI knew it! Everyone thinks youāre so sweet and innocent and they all fail to see the monster underneath! So ruthless and vile!ā
āLike youāre one to talk,ā Yuuri retorted. They were pressed up against each other and Yuuri wondered if Phichit could feel how hard his heart was beating. āWho was it that smuggled vodka into the dorms at last weekās party via water bottles, huh? It certainly wasnāt me. I still remember how you straight up told the dorm supervisor to take a sip just throw him off. You were lucky he didnāt actually do it and believed in bold faced lies!ā
Phichit laughed at the memory. They were so close together now that Yuuri could feel Phichitās breath fan over his face. Phichitās eyes lightened up a certain way when he laughed and it always spread a warmth in Yuuriās chest. He loved it whenever he was the one to make Phichit light up like that. āYeah, that was wild. Still, canāt believe he fell for that! Think I should do it again?ā
āWhat? No! The last time was nerve wrecking enough! I donāt want to go through that again!ā Yuuri declined. Somewhere in their conversation, Phichit had removed his arms from around Yuuriās waist and they were now resting comfortably around his neck instead. Wherever their skin touched was vibrating with warmth and his skin hummed with approval. A feeling he had gotten used to as of late considering how they much closer they had gotten since they first met.
Phichit just smirked. āIt was still a lot of fun though. I remember you laughing. I remember you laughing a lot actually.ā
Yuuri was about to retort when they suddenly heard the tv wail signaling that the time was up and they had both lost the game. Yuuri let out a strangled sound. āPhichit look at what you did! Now we have to start all over again!ā
That wiped Phichitās victorious grin right off his face (he had been rejoicing at the fact that he hadnāt lost to Yuuri which to him counted as a win). āWhat? No! I donāt want to!ā Phichit whined as he closed his eyes and buried his face in the nook of Yuuriās neck which made the latterās breath hitch. āYuuri weāve already played enough. I donāt want to lose anymore.ā
āWhat the-?ā Yuuri said and groaned in annoyance which mad Phichit open his eyes and he suddenly found himself in darkness.
Phichit immediately let go of Yuuri to touch his face in horror. āPlease tell me that we just had a power out and that I didnāt just go blind.ā
āThe power went out,ā Yuuri confirmed.
āOh thank god,ā Phichit exhaled relieved.
āWhyād you even think that you suddenly went blind? Iām pretty sure that isnāt the first concern that usually goes through a personās mind when theyāre in the dark?ā
āI had a really realistic dream last night that I couldnāt see so I just thought shit this is it just as the prophecy foretold, you know? Ironically my whole life didnāt flash before my eyes, the only thing I could think was but I havenāt watched the latest episodes of b99 yet! I was utterly devastated Yuuri.ā But Yuuri gave no response. āYouāre judging me arenāt you? I canāt see you, Yuuri, but I can feel your judgy look so freaking hard. Yuuri I thought we were friends!ā
āWe should probably check out why the lights went out,ā Yuuri said after a long silence.
āWait!ā Yuuri was about to get up when suddenly he felt Phichit lightly touch his arm before he wrapped his hand around it. āYou canāt just leave me alone in the dark. Who knows whatās out there ready eat me.ā
Yuuriās mouth curved into a smile. āTheyād be right to eat you considering how you made me lose the game earlier.ā
Phichit let out a surprised laugh and tackled Yuuri to the ground. āI canāt believe you! Is that how little I mean to you? I thought we were best friends!ā Phichit attacked Yuuriās sides tickling him mercilessly. āSay you love me and would never abandon me!ā
Yuuri wheezed with laughter. āPhi- please sto-ā Yuuri tried to sit up in an attempt to throw Phichit off but instead crashed his mouth with his and they both instantly froze. There had been nothing romantic about it considering that they just slammed their mouths together but Yuuriās cheeks still heated up and his heart pounded painfully in his chest. And he was suddenly grateful that the power was out.
I canāt believe I just did that! He had the sudden urge to find a hole to crawl into and die. Phichit, of course, being the inconsiderate ass that he was just had to address it.
āYuuri⦠did you just kiss me?ā Phichit asked sounding mightily amused and the only thing Yuuri could think about despite how hard he was crushing on him was how much he wanted to deck him. He could die of embarrassment. āAre you embarrassed?ā How did he freaking know?
When Yuuri refused to reply knowing that whatever came out would be a blabbering mess he felt Phichitās hands softly ran up his body, leaving hot trails in their wake, till they settled on his cheeks. āDonāt be. I didnāt mind. Next time just try to make it hurt less.ā
Yuuri let out a shuddering breath. āDoes that mean-that you-you-ā
āThat I like you?ā Phichit finished for him. āYes. Quite a lot. In fact-ā Phichit fumbled for Yuuriās hand and placed it on his beating heart. āIāve for some time and right now right at this moment I really want to kiss you.ā
Feeling Phichitās heart beat under his fingertips did nothing to sooth the erratic beating of his own heart but it reassured him and he found it much easier to breathe. He sat up and reached for Phichitās face to cup it in his free hand. They sat like that in deafening silence, cupping each otherās cheeks with one hand and the others rested upon each atop Phichitās chest. āYouāre so quiet,ā Phichit noted, he himself talking quietly as he slowly caressed Yuuriās cheeks with his thumb. āI want to kiss you. Is that okay?ā
āYeah,ā Yuuri breathed. His heart was beating so erratically in chest that he could barely hear and yet he felt at ease at the same time. He felt like they were sitting in their own bubble cocoon by the darkness. He quite liked it. Their own little dark world.
Phichit moved his hand from where it was resting atop Yuuriās to cup his cheek. Yuuri could feel him close the distance between them and wondered if he should close his eyes despite not being able to see shit either way.
The kiss was soft and chaste at first as they tried to adjust to each other. They even clicked their teeth together which just made Phichit giggle and Yuuri grinned because they were both idiots and omg I love him.
They adjusted and their lips finally slotted together in complete sync and Yuuriās chest exploded with warmth, love, joy, something everything and the only thing he could think in that moment as he felt Phichit toy with the ends of his hair - something that made sigh with content - and his own arms wrap around Phichitās waist was that there was nowhere else in the entire world he would rather be than with his eccentric and lovable room/rink mate/best friend because he just loved him so freaking much.
When they finally broke apart for air Yuuri found the same love in Phichitās smoldering gray eyes. His cheeks were flushed red which made Yuuri experimentally poke them because they were so pretty and cute. His eyes vibrated with such joy, they were mesmerizing and Yuuri wanted to capture their radiance as a monument and keep it forever. Phichit seemed to second his thoughts as he suggested that they took a selfie. Yuuri reached for Phichitās phone right away noticing just then that the lights had already turned back on.
They took the selfie Phichit slung his arm around Yuuriās shoulder something they had always done but felt a lot intimate after what they had done.
āLetās build a fort,ā Phichit suggested with a cheeky grin and Yuuri laughed.
āThatās so random.ā
āSo?ā
So Yuuri didnāt protest when his best friend clasped his hand in his and helped him build a fort in the middle of the night for no apparent reason other than he was asked to and he was too weak to refuse. Once it was built Phichit pushed Yuuri down and captured his lips in his. This kiss packed a lot more enthusiasm and passion that made Yuuri reel and he absolutely loved it.
Yuuri pulled back to catch his breath. āDonāt tell me the only reason you wanted to make this fort was just to make out in it.ā
Phichit stared down at him with a smirk and eyes that glinted with mischief. āWhat better reason is there?ā Phichit asked and Yuuri grinned because honestly, he couldnāt have agreed more.
Yuuri wasnāt home from training yet. Phichit stopped cutting vegetables and looked out the kitchen window. Not that he could see much, with the rain pouring down the pane like it did. Maybe Yuuri was waiting somewhere for it to stop? But he had taken his big old umbrella, Phichit had seen him do so this morning.Ā
He wasnāt actually worried, and the soup could practically simmer indefinitely. But he took out his phone nonetheless, checked for messages, and when there were none, he sent one to Yuuri quickly. Just to make sure.
Yuuri didnāt reply.
He was just starting to get really worried, when he heard something outside their apartment door, then the telltale sounds of key and lock, before the familiar, but oddly harassed-sounding voice called:
āPhichit, can you please get me a towel?ā
He grabbed one on his way to the small hallway, staring as he saw Yuuri still standing outside the apartment, dripping murky water from head to toe.
In a heroic effort, Phichit neither laughed nor took out his phone to take a picture.
āOh, Yuuri.ā He handed him the towel, then rummaged for a rag for his roommate to stand on.Ā āWhat happened?ā
āBig puddle. Large truck.āĀ
Phichit clicked his tongue in sympathy, pulled Yuuri inside and shut the door behind him.
āYou look frozen, too. Go take a shower, Iāll take care of your clothes.ā
Yuuri gave him a small smile.
āThanks, youāre the best.ā
āI know.ā Phichit beamed and ushered him towards the tiny bathroom.
After hanging Yuuriās clothes up to dry and unpacking his bag, grimacing at the state of a couple of notebooks, but glad that his friends hadnāt had any textbooks with him, Phichit went back into the kitchen and continued with making soup.
Eventually, he heard the bathroom door open, the low thud of wet footsteps, and then Yuuriās bedroom door fall shut. He gave him another five minutes, before he went over and knocked.
Yuuri was sitting on the tiny, threadbare couch, wrapped in a blanket, still looking utterly woebegone, squinting at Phichit, glasses beside him on the small dresser.
āHot cocoa. Lactose-free.ā Phichit sat down next to him and handed him the mug, and for a moment Yuuri looked like heād burst into tears.Ā
āYouāre a life-saver,ā he croaked.
āHow long did you have to walk like that?ā
Yuuri sniffed and took a small sip of cocoa.
āTen minutes or so? Felt much longer.ā
āYou poor thing.ā Phichit put an arm around him and Yuuri sighed.
āYou can laugh if you want. I know itās funny, when it isnāt you.ā
āIād never!ā Phichit protested, though he smiled slightly.Ā āIām making soup, by the way.ā
āThai soup?ā Yuuriās eyes lit up.
Phichit chuckled.
āYes, Thai soup.āĀ
āThis day is getting better after all.ā He drank some more cocoa, then set the cup aside.Ā āYou are the best roommate ever, Chuchu.ā
Phichit grinned.
āAnd you have got a cocoa mustache.ā He reached out without even thinking about it, and brushed his thumb over the corner of Yuuriās mouth. He saw Yuuriās eyes widen for a second, a faint blush creeping over his face, eyes fixed on Phichit, who was still cupping Yuuriās face. He couldnāt make sense of the sudden change in atmosphere for a moment, though his heart was beating much too hard.Ā
Yuuri gulped.Ā
āI...ā
Phichit didnāt know what to say. He hadnāt planned on any of this, even though it had been on his mind for weeks. Nevertheless, he bent forward slowly until he was very close to Yuuri, still holding his gaze.Ā
Then Yuuri closed his eyes and lifted his chin slightly, and there was nothing else for Phichit to do but to lean in, licking at the corner of Yuuriās mouth, before pressing his lips to Yuuriās, tasting chocolate on his friendās open mouth.Ā
Yuuriās arms were around him a moment later, pulling him close, and Phichit practically crawled onto his lap, their kisses slowly gaining heat and depth, Yuuriās tongue exploring his mouth, running along his teeth, sliding against Phichitās tongue.
āYuuri,ā he gasped, when they finally broke apart for air, both hands cupping his friendās face.Ā āGosh, Yuuri.ā He laughed.Ā āIāve wanted to do this for weeks.ā
āYou certainly know how to warm a guy up,ā Yuuri said, his shy, crooked smile endearing, and Phichit kissed his nose.Ā āI guess being doused in cold, dirty water wasnāt so bad after all.ā
āHmm, maybe, but you donāt have to do it again just to get me to kiss you, alright?ā
Yuuri chuckled, then pulled him into another kiss.

Honestly, Phichit wasnāt entirely surprised when Yuuri called him a month into moving in with Victor, choking back sobs down the phone. His heart ached, but he wasnāt surprised.
āI-I think he h-hates me.ā
Phichit fluttered his eyes shut, listening quietly to Yuuriās soft sobs down the phone line. He wondered what it was this time, what Victor had said - or hadnāt said - to send his best friend into a spiral of panic. Poor Yuuri. It wasnāt the first time either. But hearing Yuuriās crying for himself was very different to just knowing it was happening half the world away through his best friendās emotional texts.
āHe doesnāt hate you,ā Phichit said firmly. Because it was true. āYouāre just getting used to each other. It takes time, okay? Remember how long it took us to get used to living together?ā
A strangled chuckle answered him.
Something in Phichitās heart constricted at the sound. āJust give it time,ā he breathed, the invisible rubber band around his chest pulling tight. āHe loves you. And you love him.ā
And not me , Phichit added silently in his head.
In St Petersburg, Victor pinched the bridge of his nose and tried to cling onto his patience. āLook, Yuuri, it just really bugs me okay,ā he said, calmer than he felt. āCan you please just help me with the dishes now.ā
It wasnāt a big deal. It really wasnāt. It was tiny and stupid and Victor had just suddenly snapped because it was the hundredth time in a row, and there was only so much irritation he could take.
The dinner plates were stacked in the sink, used pan still on the stove from making dinner. Sure, there wasnāt much washing to do and it wasnāt exactly a huge mess; but it was in a place where it shouldnāt be, ruining the perfect image of Victorās immaculate kitchen just by existing. He knew Yuuri would do the dishes eventually tonight, but Victor just wanted the mess gone. Every second it was there plucked on his nerves like a guitar string.
āI-Iām sorry.ā Yuuri trembled in the kitchen in front of him, tears practically pricking in the corners of his eyes and fingers picking at each other nervously in front of him. āItās just that when I lived with Phichit, we always did the dishes later and I guess thatās what Iām used to so I just - I didnāt think - Iām sorry! I⦠Iām sorry ...ā
Dammit, Yuuri was crying again. He cried a lot. Victor hadnāt been prepared for how much Yuuri cried - even in his sleep! Tiny beads of moisture leaked from his eyes when he was tired, tickling the skin on the back of Victorās shoulder when they were curled up in bed in a way that had him leaping out of the sheets at the sensitive feeling. He hadnāt meant to make Yuuri cry for real when heād asked about it, but somehow he had.
And he was running out of reassuring words.
Especially when Yuuri mentioned his old room mate every five minutes.
Victorās jaw tensed, a nerve jumping subtly. āYouāre not living with Phichit,ā he said stiffly. āYouāre living with me.ā
Yuuri clenched his fists at his sides, digging his thumb nails into the inside of his palms to distract himself from the heat pricking behind his eyes and the tightness in his chest. The tone of Victorās voice said it all. He wasnāt going to comfort Yuuri tonight. He didnāt have the patience. The thought just made Yuuriās breath hitch even more though, praying more than anything that he could just blink and be anywhere else in that moment.
Like Bangkok.
His teeth snagged his lip at the thought, biting back the unexpected ache in the left side of his chest. The more he thought about it though, grey eyes and black hair swimming in his mind⦠yes, he thought with a trembling lip. Bangkok. It lingered in his mind long after Victorās lecture, feeling about as tall as an ant by the time the Russian was done with him.
Victor slunk off to the bedroom when he was, taking Makkachin with him. Yuuri stayed hunched on the couch in the front room though, face illuminated by the dull glow of his phone as the natural light started to crawl away.
He didnāt remember living with someone being so hard. Back in Detroit it had been practically effortless. The only arguments heād remembered from Detroit were when Yuuri had beat Phichit at a video game, Phichit had playfully tackled him in victory, and spilled Yuuriās dark soda on his favourite white shirt, and⦠no, that had ended up being a laugh, not a fight. They just didnāt fight. Not like he and Victor. Everything had just worked, clicked together on instinct.
Somehow Detroit felt more like home than Victorās St Petersburg apartment did. He almost wished he could go back. Almost.
The picture of him and Phichit in their old dorm glowed happily from the wallpaper of Yuuriās iPhone, happy smiles beaming from behind his apps until Yuuri clicked open Instagram. Phichitās smiling selfie grinned back at him, the Bangkok rink over his shoulder.
Yuuri tapped the like button, wishing he could see that smile without the pixels.
Instagram was suddenly the last thing Phichit wanted to see as the new notification buzzed on his phone, bent ridiculously over the boards around the edge of the rink to read it. His feed was drowned in Yuuri Katsuki. Yuuri cooking; Yuuri sleeping; Yuuri smiling; Yuuri reading; Yuuri not even aware his picture was being taken as he pinched a roll of chub around his middle and pulled a dissatisfied face. It wasnāt the subject of the pictures that bothered Phichit though. Yuuri was his favourite thing.
But Yuuri in Victor Nikiforovās St Petersburg apartment, half the world away⦠not so much.
Heād known it was inevitable - Yuuri and Victor were engaged for heavenās sake! - but knowing it still didnāt quite prepare him for the reality.
Phichit missed him.
A lot.
More than he expected.
The Bangkok rink was busy behind him and Phichit was just waiting for the yell from Celestino for him to drop his phone and get back to work, but Phichit just couldnāt help himself. He hated the pictures - and loved them. Every single one. Because they had Yuuri, just in the wrong place.
It hurt more than he knew it should, teeth snagging on his lower lip to hold back whatever was welling in his chest. Whatever it was, it burned.
A new picture buzzed onto his feed from v-nikiforov. Yuuri. Again. Blushing bright red as Victor nuzzled the tip of his nose into the side of his cheek, eyes scrunched up in embarrassment - no doubt, half a second before Yuuri buried his face in his hands. A smile twitched over Phichitās lips. He remembered the warmth that radiated off of a flustered Yuuri, the cutest thing heād ever seen.
His thumb hovered over the heart button on the Instagram app, his gaze lingering on the adorable plump of Yuuriās cheeks. He couldnāt bring himself to press the button though.
Another week later, air whistled sharply in and out of Yuuriās lungs, blinking up at the ceiling through the water welling in his eyes. Every gasp breathed down the phone line to Thailand.
āI donāt know what I did...ā
He honestly didnāt. He couldnāt remember if heād forgotten to crack the bathroom window open after his shower, or left the toothpaste on the side instead of in the cup, or put the TV remote on the wrong side of the table because Victor normally liked it on the right hand side, but Yuuri -
The heels of his palms pressed into his eyes and he took a deep breath. It was shaky. Salty. The wetness of his tears clung to his lips, chapping his already dry mouth.
Victor had gone.
There hadnāt even been much of a fight this time; Victor had just snapped something irritably at Yuuri while the blood pounded too loudly in Yuuriās ears to hear what he was being said to him, grabbed Makkachinās lead and left the apartment with an unnecessary slam of the door. It had made Yuuri shudder, chill crawling down his spine.
The sad thing was though, the apartment didnāt feel any different without Victor in it. He wanted to say it felt cold and empty, and Yuuri felt too alone without Victor there with him...only, he felt like that all the time. If anything, it was better being truly alone. He didnāt have to walk on eggshells so much, counting down the time until he inevitably did something wrong that broke Victorās sanctuary. He always did something wrong, after all.
He lay spread eagle on the bed, limbs stretched out in a way that he could never feel free to do when Victor was around. Phichit wouldnāt have minded, Yuuri couldnāt help thinking. A few crinkles in the sheets wouldnāt even get a second look in their old college dorm.
In Victorās perfect apartment thoughā¦
Yuuriās teeth snagged his lower lip, blinking up at the light hanging from the ceiling. It looked startlingly similar to the one from his college dorm.
He missed being with Phichit. He missed the way they lived in sync, one cooking while one cleaned. He missed the way they slotted into their favourite places in the bed, draped casually over one another in an effort to keep them both comfortable. He missed being smiled at. He missed being teased about his posters of Victor and the way Phichit would kiss his pout away like it was the most normal thing in the world.
Maybe there was a reason idols were kept on a pedestal. A reason why they were supposed to be unreachable. Close up, the magic faded away. The cracks in the picture showed.
Hot tears rolled down Yuuriās cheeks, pooling irritatingly in his ears and wetting the iPhone screen against the side of his face. Teeth snagged his bottom lip. He could feel words swelling in his chest, words that he knew he should bite down, keep to himself since he was in Victorās apartment and to say them aloud to Phichit in the way he meant them would just be - āI miss you.ā
The words rolled around in Phichitās head, Yuuriās voice whispering to him long after the phone call ended. His hand stayed by his ear though, phone bowing in his loose grip. It was wrong. It was so, so wrong since Yuuri was with Victor and Phichit was in Thailand, but it was how he felt and -
ā¦. Phichit missed Yuuri too.
Yuuri blinked, but all he saw was a blur. Tears blurred the rest of the world around him and blood pounded in his ears, drowning out everything else. Where was he?
He wasnāt even sure.
Out - that much he could tell. He wasnāt in the apartment anymore. Voices mulled around him, dull and crowded; too many to make out any specific conversations. Bodies moved around him, blurred figures paying him no heed as he stood gulping down his tears in the middle of⦠where? The distant strained whine of an engine droned in his ears and Yuuri gasped. The airport? Heād come to the airport?
His face dropped into his hands, smudging the delicate trail of his tears messily over the rest of his face. He couldnāt believe this was where heād brought himself.
A voice louder than the others spoke out over the building suddenly, feminine tone echoing slightly. Russian . Yuuri didnāt understand Russian. He didnāt understand a lot of things. This whole country was a mystery to him, even the man he moved here for.
Victor had shouted at him.
Sure, he knew he and Victor did little things that annoyed each other. Yuuri knew that. But Victor had never shouted before. It had been loud, and blunt, and thoughtless, red blotching over the Russianās face and down his neck as Victor had just lost it back at the apartment. Even Makkachin had bolted, whining from Victorās bedroom - no, their bedroom.
Only it didnāt feel like theirs. It felt like Victorās and Yuuri was just a nuisance, putting things out of place and struggling to shake his old habits. Ā
Yuuriās fingers were shaking as they pulled his phone out of his coat pocket, dialing the number he knew from muscle memory more than anything else. He glanced down at the screen, tears splashing down onto the lens of his glasses. If he couldnāt see squat before, he certainly couldnāt now. His breath hitched at the dialing tone, holding the phone to his ear and lifting his eyes back to the shapes blurring around him.
The phone clicked after four rings. ā Yuuri ?ā
Just hearing his voice sent shock waves through Yuuri, sucking in a shuddering breath and scrunching his eyes shut. They were pretty useless at that point anyway.
āPhichit?ā he choked back. He could barely stand to say the words, every one sticking in his throat liked barbed wire. There was no point lying to himself though, let alone Phichit - he was at the airport for heavenās sake! It didnāt get much worse than that. āI-I think itās over.ā
Saying aloud made it real. Too real. Yuuriās teeth crashed down on his lip harder than ever and he tasted the metallic tang of blood pooling slowly against his tongue. More tears welled in his eyes, spilling over his cheeks and dripping messily off his chin. He didnāt care. Nobody was bothering to pay any attention to the crying boy in the airport anyway. He wasnāt even sure how heād gotten hereā¦
ā Oh, Yuuriā¦ā
Yuuri ran a hand over his face, rubbing his sore eyes under his glasses. Heād done a lot of crying the last couple of days, all leading to the inevitable crescendo.
āWhat happened?ā
A humourless chuckle broke through Yuuriās lips, tasting the salt of his tears on his lips. He wasnāt sure he could say what happened.
So many of his and Victorās fights had been confusing for him, flat out not understanding what Victorās problem was half the time. Even when Victor told him what heād done, he still didnāt get how those little things he did could upset the Russian so much. Then came the snapping, and the ranting, and then English went out of the window as Victor raved in his mother tongue instead. When the latter had started to become more common in their arguments, Yuuri had realised Victor was giving up. He knew Yuuri didnāt know Russian. He knew Yuuri couldnāt understand what he was saying - Victor didnāt switch back to English though. Sharing the problem was irrelevant when you had no intention of trying to fix it.
Something caved in Yuuriās chest at the realisation, shoulders hunching over. The worst bit was he wasnāt even that upset about Victor. If he was honest with himself, he was more upset about the fact that he was alone. Really alone.
The last argument he remembered was from the kitchen, Yuuri walking back in as he heard his ringtone sing out and finding Victor holding his phone in his hand, face white. It had been a strange blend of shocked and angry. A furious flush had bloomed over his pale cheeks, darkening dangerously with every ongoing beat of Phichitās assigned ringtone. Somehow, Yuuri knew Victor had been looking at the phone long before it had starting ringing. Perhaps he had seen the call log, and the one name that flooded his call history nearly every day.
Yuuri could hardly tell Phichit that though. He just couldnāt say it. How could he even say it? ā My boyfriend broke up with me because he was jealous of how much I talk to you and the unspoken thing we have between us. Help?ā . He groaned just thinking about it - only it jumped into a hiccup, more tears leaking from the corners of his eyes.
āIām at the airport.ā he said instead, swallowing the thick lump in his throat. What was he going to do now? He couldnāt just run⦠could he? āI canāt believe itā¦ā
āYuuri, itās okay. Iām here.ā
Yuuriās lip started to quiver again. It suddenly dawned on him that he had left his boyfriend, in a country that was alien to him and - damn, he didnāt even have his wallet with him. Fingers combed roughly through his tangled hair, fighting off the waves of panic starting to build. āI know- y-youāre always there for me, but-ā but youāre half the world away, Yuuri finished in his head.
āNo, Yuuri, Iām⦠Iām here .ā
A frown nudged into Yuuriās brow, breath hitching. He blinked. āWhat?ā
āTurn around.ā
Yuuriās blood chilled.
He turned slowly on his heels, phone glued to his earā¦until his arm dropped limply down to his side, numb fingers barely holding onto his iPhone. Even through the smudge on his glasses and the blur of tears, heād recognise that mop of black hair and shimmering grey eyes anywhere.
Yuuri stepped forward - and broke into a run the second his trainers hit the floor. A broken sound choked from him when Phichit did the same, arms open wide. They crashed in a tangle of limbs, arms hugging, fingers grasping and faces burying into shoulders to anchor the other in place like they might disappear if they let go. It was impossible⦠but Phichit was here.
Yuuriās phone clattered to the floor with an alarming crack, but he suddenly didnāt care. Phichit was more important than the phone. And Phichit was here - in Russia! For himā¦
Fingers cradled the back of his skull as he sobbed into his best friendās shoulder, letting all the longing, all the pain and pining finally bubble forth to the surface. It was messy, and pathetic, and embarrassing. And Yuuri didnāt care.
