          DIM ,  STUTTERING  LIGHTS  hang  overhead ,  bleaching  the  room  surrounding.   The  tired  pull  of  conversation  from  family  contrasting  the  minor  victories  from  friends  ;  different  sets  of  groups  all  pushing  for  their  escape ,  doesn’t  matter  who  wins  or  loses ,  just  that  we  get  out  for  once.

          Cheap ,  coated  plastic  keeping  bitter  bubbles  held  thoughtlessly  in  her  hand ,  the  bent  &.  chipping  straw  picked  at  in  rumination.   Steady ,  blue  eyes  holding  their  gaze  at  the  drink  in  front  of  her ,    ❝  I  really  appreciate  you  comin ’  out  tonight.  ❞    Darting  her  glance  forward ,  releasing  the  cup  to  take  @pherez​’s  hand  in  her  own ,     ❝  we  don’t  talk  nearly  enough,   ❞    letting  her  touch  linger  as  the  edge  of  her  mouth  tucks  into  a  corner.

𝐌𝐀𝐃𝐃𝐘 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐙  ;  EPISODE  7  BASED  STARTER ﹞   ❛  look  maddy,  i  had  no  idea. ‘    that  cassie  was  her  best  friend,  yes.   that  they  were  as  I̲N̲S̲E̲P̲A̲R̲A̲B̲L̲E̲   as  they  were?   no.   even  now,  he’s  not  entirely  sure  how  much  of  lexi’s  play  was  entirely  accurate  or  fictional  depiction.   the  parts  about  him  were  over-exaggerated  and  frankly  made  him  𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙸𝙲𝙸𝙳𝙰𝙻  but  that  was  neither  here  nor  there  at  the  moment.  ╱  @pherez​

     heartbreak. that’s what she’d seen across maddy’s face that night. a heart shattered, and not for a boy, but for her best friend. a friendship forever ripped apart, forever ruined with no hope of redemption. it was a loss, a grieving process she was certain the two girls would need to go through. how would they emerge? could anyone be sure?   ❛ i didn’t... --- the play isn’t meant to be hurtful.... ❜   but that had been maddy’s voice before the intermission, right? shouting, cheering her on from the seats? she was almost certain of it. calling her a ‘fuckin’ g’. that was good right?     ❛ did you really like the locker room scene? ❜   the smile that creeps onto the brunette’s lips is sheepish and she takes a moment to avert her gaze before lifting it to meet the other girl’s.

she  should  feel  guilty.      she should feel anything. but she doesn’t. except maybe an  aching hole  in the middle of her chest where this absence has decided to exist. rue averts her eyes down to the floor. praying that it will open it up and save her from this interrogation. no -- it’s not maddy’s fault she feels this way. rue knows that she disappointed her friends, and that’s the worst feeling in the world.
