Rant incoming but I cannot fucking stand the whole "upbringing" excuse for racists Because yes, your parents do influence your views while you're growing up. But it is not an excuse to be a shitty person I am sick of hearing "oh [insert middle aged person] is racist because that's how they were raised, it's not their fault" Because listen, my mom's family are some of the biggest racists on this planet They will openly use the n word with absolute venom in their voices and God do they despise any mention of immigrants I've had full FIGHTS with my mom before because I've called her out on shit And yeah, I have to admit, when I was young, it did influence me because that's what it does But guess what? I've fucking grown. In no way am I perfect, but I am constantly checking myself and trying harder to be a better individual because I don't want to be like the people I grew up with So no, your family isn't an excuse to be racist. And I'm not saying you should always call them out, because I know that's not a safe option for everybody. But if anything they should be a motivation for you to better yourself as a person and improve, improve, improve
