I finally got to my local comic book store to pick up the Universal Monsters Phantom of the Opera #1 from Image/Skybound. Along with the A Cover, they also had the die-cut I Cover which I also had to get. I don't normally buy more than one of the same issue, but I think this is a special case. I might get some more if they're priced ok.
It seems too be taking from a lot of different versions, and Tyler Boss refers to his experiences with them in his author's note at the end. His first exposure to it was Goosebumps and then saw ALW, which amazed him.
Martin Simmonds's art is lovely! Reminds me of smaller press horror comics from the 90s. [Edit: It’s struck me later that it reminds me of Dave McKean.]
Highly recommend! I'm excited to see what direction it takes!
