i’m a phantom in the sense that i haunt the narrative of the lives of everyone i’m close to
they see me in the background of my favourite tv shows. hear me in the rain and the wind chimes. feel me in the prickle that goes down the back of their neck just before i said “boo”. smell me in those clothes i borrowed from them. taste me in the cherry coke i always drink, and the pomegranates they had to help me peel.
they won’t ever forget me. i’m not in their lives anymore, not physically, but i’ll always be that shadow in the corner of their eye. always there, never quite tangible.
nothing more than a phantom
