Ot’s 11:36 pm and I’ve come back with more unhinged thoughts…
Apparently the name Phanes belongs to a deity of light, one said to bring good the light/be the light. It’s also said Phanes was a ‘first born deity’?? Apparently Phanes emerged from the abyss and gave birth to the universe
What if… what if history of Teyvat had been WRONG
What if when Phanes came into being there wa nothing but endless darkness so THEY made the universe and it put THEM to sleep for a very long time. When THEY woke Phanes was so very tired, so Phanes went to a random planet to recuperate
This planet was Teyvat. THEY fell in love with the world yet THEY could see the abyss encroaching once more. It corrupted the dragons so Phanes killed them and created for Shades who would help give out THEIR will
Or perhaps… perhaps when Phanes awoke THEY did not hold any memories so THEY wandered the universe that felt so familiar and then Phanes reached Teyvat…
On Teyvat things went as canon yet to Phanes something was always off
Perhaps… just perhaps Phanes starts remembering, perhaps they don’t.
But the meaning of Phane’s name gives me ANOTHER idea
What if the shades were Phane’s creations?
What if they were more akin to parasites. They latched onto their lovely little host and over time grew to love Phanes and see Phanes as more than just something that kept them alive
So before the dragons fell the shades took form and they twisted their beloved Phanes’ mind, even halfway taking over to kill the dragons. The dragons could not understand why their friend had betrayed them so, why their friend’s warm eyes once sparkling with joy were now dead and cold.
But the Shades did not explain.
And do history was written and then burned.
The shades do not regret, not at all, and their beloved Phanes stays with them. Asmoday had left for a simple reason, even if they must pretend to not know, to deal with the abyss sibling and traveler, they might hurt Phanes after all. But is appears Asmoday is getting attached, perhaps… just perhaps they could keep the traveler
Khaenri’ah’s death was something Phanes wondered why they did, but the Shades cooed at them and badgered them for attention, effectively distracting them.
It would do not good to reveal that what happened when the dragons were being killed happened once more
But this possession came at a cost
Phanes fell into a slumber for 500 years…
I see a Phanes!Mc with this, or perhaps a Traveler!Mc who sees that something is wrong and wants to help but doesn’t know how (Traveler!Mc would make a BELOVED pet, the shades decided, something akin to a service animal perhaps?? It wouldn’t be too hard after all to twist those of Teyvat’s mind’s and change them so subtly and slowly until they hated Traveler!Mc)
Okkkkkkkkkk, now that that’s done, my last functioning brain cell is going to conjure up the ideas for Asmoday!Mc using that other unhinged idea I sent you where she’s the child of Phanes, crated using the essence of Phanes and Nibelung (or another dragon) and was born centuries before the dragons died but was still a child when they did, and the other shades were made using purely Phanes’ essence and the things around Phanes
Oooooooooooof, I’m tired but the plot bunnies and unhinged thoughts continue to ravage the brain!!
As a reminder, so I don’t accidentally offend people somehow, I’m not an expert in religion, the Bible, mythology, or anything similar to that so please don’t be too mad if I got what Phanes’ name means??
Anyways I hope this unhinged thought makes sense and if not I’ll try and make sense of it in the morning (apologies for spelling or grammar or mistakes or things being confusing)
Uh... well, this is disturbing. And really, really sad... but mostly disturbing. Please, don't make Traveler!MC a service animal or hated. They don't deserve that... and maybe have Neuvillette or Apep put two and two together about why their 'friend' did what they did so long ago.
Save Phanes (Be it whether they're a MC or not)! Down with the Shades!
