Everyone fucks up sometimes. That's how they learn and grow. Including your fave, when they are a REAL PERSON. Especially a real person who lives an incredibly privileged life. Real people fuck up sometimes.

People in LatAM and SEAsia are allowed to be irritated about not getting professional updates about TIT tour, and that they just get a one off tweet from dan saying that the "governments said no homo." SEAsian phannies are ALLOWED to be frustrated about what Dan said. They are allowed to ask Dan to NOT SAY STUFF LIKE THAT.

Dan is also ALLOWED TO BE UPSET about not getting to tour in those places, but people can and should hold him accountable for saying something that perpetuates an upsetting stereotype about Asian countries.

ANYWAY. PHANNIES WHO THIS DISCOURSE DOESN'T AFFECT: THIS DOES NOT AFFECT YOU!!!! We should listen to our LatAM and SEAsian phannies when they say that what Dan said about THEIR HOMES is HURTFUL. We shouldn't get angry at them about expressing hurt and disappointment.

people are not cancelling dan, okay? He spoke on it in a less emotional way, and I feel he resolved things in a professional manner, and if they think he should continue talking about it, then we will go from there.

Tl;dr: how are dan and phil so much more popular on twitter than on youtube? How are they much more popular on twitter than "bigger" youtubers are? Who likes them only for their twitter content and not youtube?

that being said, dan’s feelings are valid too.  if he’s really, truly upset that people misconstrued his message (which i do think he is to some extent), that’s valid.  but it doesn’t give anyone else the right to ‘stand up for him’ by tearing into other people because they have real, valid feelings about what happened yesterday.  people are upset.  let them be upset.  let them ride the waves of their emotions until they’ve calmed down.  

everyone deals with their emotions differently.  if people need to shout for a bit because they thought the way dan spoke yesterday was hurtful, that’s okay.  you don’t have to see it on your dash.  block those for a few days until they cool down, but let them deal with things in their own ways.  if they if they need to distance themselves from dan for a few days, that’s okay. let them. if they need to take a stop back and just get off of tumblr for a few days, that’s okay.  tell your friends that you love them and let them live out their reactions in the ways that work for them.  

don’t be a dick or make it out to be their fault for misconstruing things in the first place.  communication is and always will be one of the most difficult aspects of being a human being.  people don’t always say exactly what they mean, and that can be confusing.  people tend to hear exactly what they want to hear.  it’s human nature, and it can also be confusing, especially when they realize that they were wrong in the first place.  

people are hurt because they never made a conscious decision to misinterpret what dan was saying.  they’re hurt because he’s made them feel like their excitement was not only invalid, but also disrespectful to the time and energy he put into making that video--and that was never their intention.  they were excited because they thought that he was finally opening up about something that so many of them could relate to.  don’t invalidate their feelings just because you aren’t experiencing them yourself.
