One thing to note about Clive Spong's illustrations in Jock the New Engine is that several are reminiscent of illustrations by Peter Edwards in Small Railway Engines. I think this is a neat detail.

These two illustrations from Duke the Lost Engine are interesting in that they depict the same location but decades apart, showing how nature has come to reclaim the land after the Mid Sodor Railway closed. The two illustrations essentially serve as a time lapse.

Mountain Engines had some great illustrations. The book itself is interesting in that was the first and only appearance of the Culdee Fell Railway. Peter Edwards was the illustrator of the book, and it was some of his finest work.
