used to climb into clemenza's car drunk to follow him on missions. clemenza was understandably annoyed and worried that vito would fuck him up but as long as it wasn’t too dangerous he’d let sonny come along

had a brief phase where he tried to go by santino instead of sonny. none of his family listened to him so he just gave up

Aight so you know how in the original version of the script for Godfather II Frank Pentangili was supposed to be Clemenza? Okay so walk with me, jog if you have to

There's obviously a lot of things about Frank Pentangili that make it pretty obvious that he's a stand-in character for Clemenza. During the final trial scene, Michael brings Vincenzo Pentangili to the final session to manipulate Frank into abandoning his statement and "siding" with Michael, right? Clemenza also had a brother, Domenic Clemenza, who remained in Sicily. Just like Vincenzo.

So I 100% believe that in the original script, Clemenza ends up betraying Michael because of the world's biggest misunderstanding ever due to the miscommunication with Hyman Roth and the Rosato Brothers, that lead to the assassination attempt on Clemenza and him being taken into FBI custody (same one on Pentangili in the final version of Godfather II). And in the final scene at the trial, obviously with some differences with what ended up being the final scene, Clemenza (with the prodding of the FBI) drafts a statement against Michael, to which Michael and Tom respond to by bringing Domenic over to the US and all that his presence at the trial implies (same thing as the exchange of non-verbal communication between Michael, Frank, and Vincenzo), Clemenza suddenly drops the statement and takes a stance of obliviousness to protect Domenic.

The rest of the script remains the same as the final product w/ Pentangili with Tom going to the army barracks and advising Clemenza to..."do like the Romans do".
