When I was a child, my favorite color used to be pink 🩷. Then, when I got older, my tastes naturally changed, and now the color I like the most is blue 💙.

My favorite character from Alnst is Ivan - I felt that special connection with him from the very beginning. The second character with whom I can relate is Mizi. For some strange coincidence, their distinctive colors are pink and blue, and they are also shown to be best friends, so... hmm, I think this says enough 👀

WHAT? I didn't know the black templars got removed! I am personal alright with it if so, I've never really liked them. Like their design was cool but they were/are probably my second least fav chapter.

I think it was less because of them in and of themselves but 99% of the time the people I interacted with always made the "Heresy" jokes loved BT and were the bigest gate keepes.

@cosmic-cryptid-from-beyond has really lessened my disdain for BT but they still rank pretty low.

As for my fav Xeno? Eldar are probably my least favourite especially craft world eldar, I really like the Exodites and Drukari (mainly cause I love Slaanesh and their Hellraizer ascetic)

My fave probably gotta be the Tyranids. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their eldritch/lovecraftian ascetic, the shadow in the Warp is so cool and I love how everything about them is organic and alien. Sure if separated from the hive mind their far more animalistic (or the lesser ones behave that way) but their hive mind is so cool.

Im a huge lovecraftian/Cthulhu mythos fan so seeing and reading about the Tyranids and how they behave is so freaking cool.

Do they eventually snap? Do they try and force their prey friend out of their life for their own good? Do they eventually breakdown to them about what they want?

Or do they bottle it all up? Letting themselves be hungry, so they don't hurt or scare their friend, unsure of what to do?

Maybe they break. They can't take it anymore. It hurts so much, they're so hungry... They need to feed. Maybe they can't bring themselves to consume their friend, so they pick someone else. Perhaps another friend, a coworker or simply a random stranger they just met. Maybe a few horror filled minutes later, they're staring at a soaked, scared, maybe even partially burned prey, freshly gagged back up. What now?

Do they bribe their silence, beg them to not tell anyone? Threaten to eat them again if they don't keep quiet? Or do they let them go? Feeling they deserve whatever happens to them now.

Or maybe their prey friend eventually finds out. Discovering their predatory desires. What they do? Run? Try and talk to them? Do they fear them? Or do they see how much their own hunger has negatively affected them and feel pity? Try and stick with them, help them work through it. Maybe they willingly agree to be eaten, after taking the proper precautions to assure their safety first.

Maybe not.

Maybe they nervously try and ignore the starved stares they revive as they try and help them figure it out. Try and get them to find some other ways to satisfy their cravings. Try and get them the help they need. Maybe it helps. Maybe the cravings stop being so overpowering. Maybe not. Maybe they simply continue to grow hungrier and hungrier.

But the part of me that just doesn’t get absurdist humor - despite really, really wanting to like Month Python et al. - is sobbing in agony.

Just… Please. Get to a point.

I’m watching Swan Lake right now, and I swear, the first twenty minutes has been to establish:

I’ve watched 15% correction 20% of this tragic love story, and met neither the tragically cursed female lead nor the horrible wizard villain.

Unless this is one of those productions where the second male lead dancer in the beginning is secretly Von Rothbart, but I’m sincerely doubting it. Too much smiling.

It’s VERY VERY different from Choujin Sentai Jetman. Zyuranger aimed to be more humorous and light-hearted than Jetman and take Super Sentai away from the science fiction it had been for, well, pretty much its entire existence and try a more fantasy setting.

The show can seem like complete and utter tonal whiplash when compared to its immediate predecessor and I can understand someone who was a huge fan of the way Jetman handled character and theme (especially with its villains) being put off by Zyuranger’s silliness. However, I would never call the series bad.  It’s just really different.  

Of course, I saw Zyuranger before I ever saw Jetman and with a ton of series in between so it wasn’t as suddenly weird and different to me. It certainly wasn’t as goofy as Gekisou Sentai Carranger, which if you’re not liking the way Zyuranger does things I would recommend skipping that one. Still, I do find the humor to be pretty fun and I like a lot of the villains (well, aside from the two most useless ones) especially Bandora, Grifforzer and Lami.

The focus on kids was just the producer’s aiming the show more at the core demographic.  This is a kids’ show after all and it’s been a trope for a very long time that there be episodes focuses on a kid of kids of the week.  Zyuranger seems to have more of these than a lot of the other shows in its era and the balance gets restored in later shows. 

Kids are also a major theme in this show, given Bandora’s absolute hatred of children (which spawns from her origin story you will see later if you keep watching).  That may be a major turn off for someone seeking a much more tightly focused narrative and attention paid to the heroes but it didn’t bother me too much.  Heck, if you want a tight narrative, try the series after Zyuranger, Gosei Sentai Dairanger is probably the most tightly plotted series of the 1990s.

But is Zyuranger bad?  I don’t think so.  I know some people who consider it one of their favorites of all time.  Is it silly?  Oh heck yes.  But it does get more serious later on once things really get rolling.  Burai also becomes a much more interesting character once he stops hanging around Bandora and joins the heroes.

But, this show just might not be your cup of tea.  If you don’t enjoy it, that’s ok!  Not ever series is going to appeal to every fan.  Some of my favorites in the franchise are hated by other fans and I’m ok with that.  Everyone had different tastes and no one can tell you you are wrong for not liking a popular series or for loving one everyone else dumps on.  

To each their own as it should be!
