Social media is âlynch first, maybe question laterâ
Which is why callouts are so dangerous these days, especially fake or overblown ones. If youâre knowingly calling out someone as a bad person even though they havenât abused or harmed anyone IRL but are treating them like they did, youâre part of the problem.
Everything is 1500% more reactionary than itâs ever been. People see a callout and go ham harassing the target, instead of taking a step back and making sure theyâve actually:
A) got all the info from a non-biased perspective, and
B) the person in question actually did what theyâre accused of. Not framed in a âoh they like fictional [x] so theyâre clearly [y]â way, Did. They. Do. What. Theyâre. Accused. Of.
Callouts should be a last resort, not a first step. They should be about someoneâs actual real life behaviours with other people, not just because they happen to like fictional problematic shit.
And if you do want to add their fictional crap to a callout, donât make it the first or only fucking thing you talk about.
If youâre talking about someone who grooms minors, focus on that first, not what they ship.
If someoneâs a huge racist? Donât even mention they stan [x] if itâs irrelevant to their racism.Â
Fiction does not take priority over other living people.
