This beach view is ethereal, as though you've stumbled upon a hidden oasis.
The waters are crystal clear, twinkling in empyrean blue along the line of the horizon. Soft white sand acts as its canvas, shells shimmering as gentle waves sift over them. Healthy tufts of sea grass sway elegantly in motion with the ginger currents, and you can spot tiny silver fish swimming in and out on occasion, their scales glinting in the sunlight.
You've seen this place in your sleep.
You thought it was a hoax when you saw it advertised in an online ad while you were mindlessly scrolling through your socials: participate in this quick survey for a chance to win a vacation to an elysian paradise!
You had snorted when you first read it, ha! As if. Your thumb clicked on the image link of a much too pretty to not be photoshopped beach, which then led you to a three minute survey where all you had to do was choose which pictures resonated with you the most. It was actually quite entertaining, kind of like those buzzfeed personality tests.
Afterwards, all you had to do was input your email and phone number to be eligible for a chance to win that vaction. You thought why not and did so anyway.

He had been one of the few faces you've seen around on this quiet osasis. A sharpcut jawline, oblong shaped face, pretty monolid eyes with coffee brown irises, a strong torso, and a handsome, bright smile always curled on his lips whenever you breach his sights.
Lee Chan is his name, trim black hair parted just off centre on his forehead, was someone who welcomed you on your first day on the isle.
You're one of the few who knows about this side of paradise, the local village and shops being around a 30-minute walk inland. Chan is one of the fewer that you've seen around the beach.
From him, you've learned that this beachside is seen as sacred grounds by the locals--and you'd immediately panicked and started to fret about how disrespectful you've been by just meandering and staying there. But he'd then been quick to reassure you that it was alright, and the people themselves come and go from time to time, they just prefer to leave it to in it's natural sanction.
You had commented on the mystics of the view, and he in turn explained to you some of the beliefs and legends surrounding the place.
He's proven as wonderful company, even a bit mysterious despite his open nature.
You don't mind though--an aspect about him that draws you in.
From him, you learn of the four deities that once roamed the land:
The8, the jiaolong (water dragon) that protects and provides from the ocean's depth and tides. He controlls the currents and guides sailors through storms, keeping the village fed with his plentiful reefs.
Dino, the water nymph that cares more directly for the people. He filters the village waters and streams, aiding people's health through the natural hot springs and flowers and herbs found along the river side.
Moon, the merman protecting the beach line and their larger water sources. A trickster, that one. Too shy to mingle with the people, but bold enough to tease them with tinkling sun showers and doubling their water crops. He summons the rains and clouds, delegating the sun's rays to aid the village harvest.
Hoshi, the selkie. From seal to man he hides in plain sight, aiding the people with their hunts and materials. In legend, he'd gotten too excited with the people and caused their southern plantations to be trampled by a stampeed of deer. Their fishing boats are often accompanied by wild seals which lead them to schools of fish.
Chan even went as far as to lead you to the various monuments dedicated to these mythic beings. Aside from some overgrowth, these shrines are well cared for and loved, as shown by the offerings still lain by the base.
Later on, on your own and in low glow of the early evening, you provide some offerings of your own.
Some smoked fish for the selkie that provides, a mooncake for the mischievous merman, a handwoven bracelet from the marketplace for the nymph, and a cup of hot herbal tea for the dragon that protects.
As you turned to leave a fog settled over the water, a haze settling over you from the peace of it.
It's not until the morning after where you recall seeing a long, serpentine silhouette, the moonligt glinting off its scales. It had stared at you from across the bay, and you remember being in awe of its floating mane and opaque fins that fluttered in motion of the currents below.
It was grand in size, and you had been hypnotized by its sharp, golden gaze as it leered down towards you. You didn't feel threatened by the beast, though intimidated all the same, but rather, scrutinized by the being. It had huffed a warm breath over your face, making you blink out of your stupor.
Bemused, the beast seemed. However, when you dared reach a hand within distance of it--you awoke in your bed with the windows open wide, white curtains blowing in with the morning breeze.
An interesting dream, was it not?
Is what you would have thought, if not for the palm sized bioluminescent scale placed carefully by your bedside.
