A timeless favorite, the classic shrimp cocktail is a refreshing and elegant appetizer that never goes out of style. Tender shrimp are poached to perfection and served with a zesty homemade cocktail sauce, making it the perfect starter for any occasion.
Ingredients: 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined. 1 cup ketchup. 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish. 1 tablespoon lemon juice. 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce. 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce optional. Salt and pepper to taste. Ice for serving.
Instructions: As the water boils, add salt to a large pot. It will take about two to three minutes of cooking after adding the shrimp until they are pink and opaque. Take the shrimp out of the water and put them right into a bath of ice to stop the cooking. Use a small bowl to mix the cocktail sauce. Add the ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce if using, salt, and pepper. Put the shrimp on a platter and put a bowl of cocktail sauce in the middle of it. If you want, you can serve the shrimp cocktail cold with lemon wedges and extra hot sauce.
