It's here! The #pentecostquilt is all done - and just a week late ;) ...though let's just say that's a week early for next year, m'kay? You guys, photos can't tell how lovely this quilt is. The colors seriously RADIATE so beautifully from the center; I love it so much! You can completely change the look of the quilt, too, based on color placement (scroll to see some mock-up ideas using Hoffman watercolors, solid radiating colors, and prints). The next three #freemotionfriday events will each be focused on quilting this quilt; we'll start this Friday by creating light rays in the radiating colors, then add wood grain the following Friday, and finish off with adding curls to the dove the Friday after. We took a short camping trip in our little camper this past week, but I’m home now and back to finishing up the #pentecostquilt - today is all about the back. When it comes to the back of quilts, I almost always use the fabric remnants from the front; it’s a great way to add visual interest *and* use up those scrap pieces! What’s your favorite way to make a back for your quilt? Do you use a single fabric, create a set design, or something else? I’d love to know! Let’s talk paper piecing. Who out there loves ripping the paper off? I admit to getting a sense of satisfaction with each “riiiiiip” sound, bringing me *that much closer* to having the quilt top free from the foundational base. Three quarters of the way through this #pentecostquilt - then it’ll be time to add some borders, backing, and quilting. ...that pursed-lip intense look you get when foundation paper piecing! 🤣 After a cold that stick around WAY longer than I liked, finally feeling ready to slowly start sewing and living again. The importance of an organized quilting space has never been more obvious as it was this morning. After a week of homeschooling, sewing, and packaging, the studio is a mess. I wanted to get some sewing done today on the #pentecostquilt as little man is in school for a few hours, so sat down to work on the graded/ombré rays. In the mess, I grabbed the wrong fabric...and now have to rip out twenty FPP pieces. 😣 🙄 😖 Note to self: clean up a bit beforehand; a tidy space is an efficient space.
