Pen (No Paper) In the context of this assignment, the objective entailed the conscientious utilization of the ink contained within the provided pen across various substrates. My approach centered on employing this ink to illustrate upon a diverse array of surfaces, including but not limited to lamp posts, cardboard, and rocks. Each surface presented a unique canvas upon which to express creativity. The thematic content of my drawings was spontaneous yet purposeful, encapsulating a blend of personal symbolism and popular culture references. For instance, I depicted my own fictional character adorning the lamppost, juxtaposed with the portrayal of the beloved character Shrek on humble cardboard. This exercise not only demonstrated resourcefulness but also fostered an exploration of artistic expression within unconventional contexts.

Statement of Intent: I call this project "Extraction". For this assignment we were tasked with completely using up all the ink inside of a pen without the use of paper. I chose to extract the ink into an old wine bottle. First, I smeared the ink on the label of the bottle, and then begin extracting the ink into the bottle. As, I was extracting the ink I noticed that it took a lot of effort to extract the "dark, grimey, and dirty stuff" aka the ink from the pen. Once I noticed this, I decided to extract the "dark, grimey, and dirty stuff" from myself. However, when I extracted these things from myself, I wasn't extracting ink. I was extracting all my doubts, fears, and insecurities. I extracted all these things from myself and mixed it with ink resulting in a black concoction. Not to be consumed by anyone.

As I was lighting up the pen it popped so I decided to end the project at that moment.

When the project was assigned my first instinct was to relate ink to soda because of their visual properties similarity. I chose a “Diet Coke” can as my canvas to put emphasis on the “No sugar, No Calories” wording on it since apparently if it has no sugar and no calories automatically makes it all fine to consume.
