     “Oh my god. You-- guy.” He points a finger at the man standing off to the side, before pointing toward where his brother has just stormed off. “How much for you to throw your coffee at his head?” 

Once he put down the phone, it hit him that he was navigating into uncharted waters with Jughead. Again. The thing with having a best friend was that growing up beside someone else let you see all the ways they’d developed and the dark and twisted path his bestie had taken was far from the wholesome burger and shake movie marathons they used to have in the living room when they were kids. It was as foreign as it was exciting. Enthralling in the ways that horror movies gave him nightmares for weeks, yet he couldn’t look away. 

The thought that Jughead might’ve gotten into some real trouble clouded his mind on his way to Pop’s, congesting like a storm until his imagination was raining blood and knives onto everything. Archie looked so concerned by the time he arrived that Pop Tate immediately fired up his order with double the whipping cream and cheese in case he needed the sweetness.

Archie perked when the door chime rang, sitting up on his haunches like a big red dog, eyes bulbous and wide from being woken up with a reverse Amber Alert.

“Hey dude,” he said tentatively. His eyes wandered Jughead’s frame like he was trying to suss out hidden spikes. Archie leaned forward onto the table and lowered his voice conspiratorially even though there was no one else in the diner but them. “You cut her loose, right? You know-- her?”

     “-- What’re you talking about?”
