Ardbeg are celebrating their 200th anniversary with a new limited release dram, the Ardbeg Perpetuum. The Perpetuum is a blend of older classic style, some spicy expressions and some bourbon casks, which when combined has produced a dark chocolate, sea spray with peat smoke and vanilla. Dr Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg director of distilling had said "Ardbeg's character has endured for 200 years and we hope it will continue for centuries to come". We had the pleasure of drinking the Longrow red, Austrlian Shiraz Cask a couple of nights ago. Its a limited release, aged six years in bourbon casks, then finished for five years in an Australian shiraz cask. The peat was noticable as expected but very well balanced with rich berries and chocolate flavours. Dry and a bit of peat smoke at the end, but very relaxed.
