Tactical RPG in development.
Fallout 1.5: Resurrection is a currently developed mod for Fallout 2, with a completely new story taking place in the Fallout universe.
A free mod for Fallout 2.
Back when I played my first PC RPG, Arcanum, I didn’t think of “quests” as a glorified To-Do list like I do now. Granted I was still a teenager back then and World of Warcraft was years away. But I wonder what it was about that time and that game that had me so immersed in its world that each new task that came up felt like a genuine part of the world to explore and not just some time-waster the designers through in.
Maybe it was because obtaining and turning in quests wasn’t very differentiated from typical dialog. Maybe it was my youth and lack of cynicism at the time, but I wonder if flashing “Quest Complete” at the player turns what could be world to get lost in to series of chores to do before dinner.
If you can get past the extreme learning curve of the game’s point-buy character progression, I have nothing but recommendations for this RPG to anyone who wants a world to explore, a mystery to uncover, and a hero (or villain) to personify.
