his dad settled down & married his mom for a while, until his bad habits started resurfacing. they had 1 kid, jihun, but things didn’t really get bad until iseul was born ! his dad was angry they had another kid because though she was a family person, to him 1 kid was enough and he started becoming abusive to the kids & her ! things only got worse when they had yet another kid, 

 which is why the oldest jihun, chid/iseul’s brother was always so protective & tough - he’d been through it the longest & didn’t want his younger siblings to get hurt.

but not all things in his childhood were bad ! his mother was super loving to them all, and she was who supported his dream to be a writer after finding his journal with all his poems & stories in it ! which is why he really wants to be one now~

flashforward though, to right when his mother was pregnant with the youngest child and only daughter, jieun ! she didn’t want to tell him, but eventually he found out and got very angry. he flew into a rage at home & things got so bad that 14-year-old jihun had to step in, but when he did his dad was mid-punch & the impact was much harder than anticipated. jihun had to get sent to the hospital, but he died because of internal bleeding. 

this shook the entire family. his dad fled & iseul hasn’t seen him since, but no one wantd to call the police because he’s well respected in the gang & the family would risk getting hurt. so his mom was forced to handle things on her own & when her daughter was born she named her jieun, similar to jihun, honoring the fact that he sacrificed his life to save his mom & baby sister’s.

this is when iseul developed ptsd, after witnessing his brother’s death & constant abuse of himself & his family by his dad.

but this is also when he got so invested in ridding seoul of their gangs & bad people. he hated how easily his father got away w/the crime & wanted to end it ! but he’s never wanted to turn out like his father, so instead of resorting to violence he used the power of his writing by exposing all their activities !

also, he’s changed his name legally to kwon for 2 reasons - his mother’s given name is kwon, and when she legally changed it back they all did bc they didn’t want to be related to such a bad figure. the 2nd is his stepdad’s last name is kwon & though he’s not legally adopted by him yet, he sees him as far more of a father figure !

anyways - time skip ! isuel’s now a sophomore at snu, majoring in communications, minoring in journalism, and working as a journalist ! he makes near no money, sigh.... but that’s alright ! he’s doing what he wants, and hopes things will look up !

sidenote he has VERY bad vision due to the hours spent staring at screens...so he wears glasses nearly 24/7 ! he hates the feeling of contacts & he’s so used to glasses !

                    born to a jewelry mogul and a former professional baseball player, byeol had the idyllic childhood. between birthdays where she got whatever she wanted to the best private schools korea had to offer, she had it all. however, the luster of the so-called ‘good life’ wore off pretty quickly. the lavish apartment in which she lived in soon felt like a giant cage with large windows, overlooking a city filled by people who were undoubtedly happier than she was. byeol had to get out.

                    she wanted to travel! she wanted to see the world, find a job she loved ( particularly in some area of science ) and live what to her would be a fulfilled, happy life. her dreams and what her parents had planned for her didn’t align. to the two of them, she was a spoiled little brat who should have kept quiet as her sisters had before her.

                    byeol did not want her life to be conjured up for her. she wanted what she wanted and to hell with what anyone else told her. accordingly, at a party held in her honor for graduating, she promptly told all 150 people in attendance that she would be taking a gap year and moving to the heart of seoul to, quote, ‘find herself.’ 

                    imagine her parents’ mortification. they were petrified . . . not of what the big, bad city could do to their darling daughter, but of what their peers would have thought of them for allowing her to go. they gave her an ultimatum: go to university, find a wealthy man and merge the fortunes or be completely cut off and not receive any of her trust fund. imagine what she chose.

                      actually, she didn’t get to choose. no, her parents chose for her and kicked her out on her ass for simply entertaining the thought of moving out on her own and disgracing the good choi family name. it breaks her heart to think about, so she doesn’t allow herself to dwell on it much ( unless she’s drunk, because then she does nothing but think about it. )

                       upon arriving in the hustle and bustle of the heart of seoul, byeol realized that she had to find a place to stay. after walking block after block to no avail, she finally found a place in one of the more run-down sections of the city. to make it all the more interesting, the apartment was placed right above a fortune teller’s shop. figuring that would be where she could inquire, byeol went in and struck up a conversation with the enchanting clairvoyant youngmi. luckily, she struck a deal with the woman. she could move into the place above the shop only if she agreed to help with upkeep. it seemed like a no-brainer and byeol soon found herself becoming closer and closer with the older woman, seeing her as sort of the grandmother she never had. 

                       when youngmi retired, she left the shop to byeol. the woman had taught the young girl to be in touch with her third eye and soon realized she had a flair for the dramatic. those two facts allowed her to become a great fortune teller. however, byeol wanted to give back to the woman who had given her so much for the past three years. so, as a side job, she’s been known to steal some money from more of her . . .  less desirable customers. it began with stealing some money from a man who came to ask her if he should leave his wife for his much younger girlfriend. byeol affirmed, but quickly -- and completely on the fly -- told him to invest money in a bogus company. the man did, eager not only to leave his wife but also strike it rich in the making. after that initial transaction, byeol felt alive. she felt as though all of her senses were heightened and, well, she felt invincible. one con turned into two, which turned into three. now, after countless cons, she’s been able to set up youngmi in one of the best penthouses in the entire city and has even refurbished the shoppe as well.

                       however, she’s super paranoid that someone’s going to find her and catch her, putting her in jail and throwing away the key. that is what has brought her to project coffee. she wants to have some sort of deniability and another place to go, so that everything that could be traced back to her doesn’t also go to youngmi’s shop. the last thing she wants is for that incredible woman to take the fall for her.

so when he was kidnapped, he DIDN’T retaliate. his blood BOILED with adrenaline. he was scared, of course, but the smile couldn’t leave his lips as it happened. it was DIFFERENT from his every day life. it was the ADVENTURE in which he craved.

BIOGRAPHY

gabe was born in england to william and margaret dormer . he has 2 siblings -- an older sister ( 3 yrs older ) and a younger brother ( 2 yrs younger ) . they were a happy family up until he was 13 , ofc with the normal struggles for a lower class family , but they were surviving -- until they weren’t . gabe and his dad weren’t getting as much work as blacksmiths , they were hungry , and they were sick . ultimately , gabe’s mom and little brother died bc of their illness . they started doing better for a lil afterward bc  ... less mouths to feed .... but emotionally they were all devastated . some families could become closer after an event like that , but .... not these folks 

after they died , nothing was the same . gabe’s sister basically started filling in the parent role as their dad started wasting money on w.e alcohol he could find and he became a Trash Parent . he couldn’t deal with his grief and he would come home to his kids angry and upset 

when gabe was 16 & his sister was 19 , she decided she wanted to leave . she wanted to take gabe with her , they were v close and relied on each other a lot , but despite their dad’s abuse , gabe didn’t want to leave him . she tried her hardest to get him to come with , but he wouldn’t budge , and said he would be fine on his own . with LOTS of convincing , she left , and then it was just him and his dad . 

it took 3 more years before gabe left on his own . he still didn’t want to leave , but he knew he’d probably die if he stayed . he’d hid some money away from his dad , he grabbed what he had , and took off

for about a year and a half he was travelling around the country , finding work where he could , and got damn did he love it . he didn’t always have food to eat , nor a place to sleep , but that didn’t scare him . it excited him ! 

the idea of becoming a pirate didn’t appear until he was staying at a bar and he met one of the crew members of the poseidon’s curse and they were happy drunk nd just sharing stories and they told him about their life and he was like ‘ so ... can i join lmao ’ and then however u join a band of pirates , he did that ! and he’s been with them ever since . best decision of his life . he tried out a few things while working on board , but he loves being a gunner and that’s what he does best 

and it’s like it was meant to BE bc gabe doesn’t drink v often for  ...... obvious reasons ..... but this one time he managed to stumble upon the person who would set him up for the best adventure of his life

ok so!! imogen was the only child of two peasants, pretty much? in england. normal people. her dad was probably a laborer of some sort?? they were a very close family and they loved her a ton and imogen was a mischievous and curious lil’ kid and they didn’t have much money but they were happy

then when imogen was 12-14ish there was a wave of disease of some sort that took both of her parents, leaving her an orphan w/ pretty much zero (0) plan. this had a big impact on her because now she doesn’t make super strong attachments because she doesn’t want to deal with loss like that again

she pretty much became a wild child y’know she pick-pocketed to get by and hung around and grew a very thick skin and became very defensive and independent like she wanted it to be clear she was Not To Be Messed With and like she had a few friends but mostly kept to herself

she’d heard rumors about pirates and was interested so she started hanging around the docks and then voila she got picked up by poseidon’s curse (the actual specifics can be TBD--i like to think she was trying to steal somebody on the crew’s change and then got let on or smth)

so she’s probably been a part of the crew for a few years now so she’s relatively (?) new and has loved every second of it she loves to traveling and the feeling of purpose that comes with it and the thrill and the night sky and ahhh

[friends with benefits.]: imogen isn’t into the idea of getting into a relationship at all, but she’s still got needs. this is someone that she wasn’t super close with to begin with, and after they started the benefits bit of their friendship she definitely tried to distance herself from in public. in private, though, it’s a different story.
