GTX 750 TI 1gb or GTX 660 2gb? Both EVGA.
The computer has 8 gigs of ram, it's either DDR3 or DDR5, can't remember (Not using it right now) but I'm sure it's DDR5, and iirc, an i5, can't remember the details on that either but at least it's a ballpark.
I don't have the profiency yet to throw an upgrade together myself, so sought advice and the folks at the computer store suppose that it's better to just go for a 750 instead of aiming for a 660 and needing a new power source. So, are they onto something or are they just being pricks for the sake of attempting to exploit a customer?
As far as I can tell they come out almost even on the pros/cons.
The machine is a family machine, but will be used at least five days a week (9+ hours a day) for,
- General internet surfing- Some gaming, mainly Minecraft and LotRO, as well as the Elder Scrolls Anthology just to start off, all of which (except maybe Skyrim) I expect to be able to mod (esp. Morrowind) and play at or near ultra.
- Work for game design course. 3DS Max, Maya, Mudbox, and etc.Nothing too intense. Yet.
- I do art. I typically work in gimp, which is much lighter than, say, PS, but my files can get up around 4000x4000px and what, 60 layers.
Which card do you recommend? I just need a reasonably powerful computer that can handle what's thrown at it and not lag or lock up. I want my games running at 40+ fps, 60+ preferably, rather than the 15~ I get now.
For the record, there's a GT 210 in there. A fucking 210. I'm amazed it hasn't spontaneously combusted.
(Note: Don't start going on about NVidia vs AMD or 'x is better than y because 1% more grunt' or some such, because I just need this done with within the next few days.)
I'd rather trust your opinions on this than the idiot clerk who tried to sell me a $3,000 pc with some variety of Titan in it despite repeatedly being told it was out of the question.
And thank you in advance.
