Oh look! This blog isn’t dead!
Here’s an idea I had for some kind of “Classic PC” or a “PC Classic”, that I thought up after hearing about the NES Classic, SNES Classic and, especially, the PlayStation Classic (back when it still seemed promising!). I know a company has already come up with a PC Classic, but this is my, more ambitious, take on it.
●Runs on a modified version of Windows 10 (or some other system), that is made to replicate an old style of Microsoft Windows (95 to XP; these can be changed in the system settings).
●Comes with the following games built-in:
○Command & Conquer: Red Alert
○The Secret of Monkey Island
●Comes with mouse and keyboard out of the box. Could also come with either CRT monitor, or LCD monitor with optional CRT “shell” as an add-on, that can fit around the monitor. Offers VGA and HDMI connectivity to function with most monitors and TVs.
●Features a “Turbo” button for ease at playing older games.
●Offers USB 3.0 connectivity, as well as a 3.5” Floppy drive, and a CD-ROM drive, to allow for a seemingly endless array of games and programmes.
●32-bit system, with Kernel EX built-in, allowing for OS-detection to be effectively bypassed.
●Since it is based (most-likely) on Windows technology, it’s able to run practically any 32-bit software for the system, though it’s power should be around that of a cheap gaming laptop, to keep prices as low as possible, and also because the system’s focus is on older software.
●Perhaps, to complete the retro-style, it may also feature a web browser reflecting the time period (e.g. A version of Microsoft Edge that offers the same visual style as Internet Explorer 4 or 5, or perhaps a version of Firefox based on Netscape Navigator, if a collaboration with Mozilla and the “Foxscape” theme’s designer, Michael Walden, is possible.
These are just my thoughts. What do you guys think?
