Triangle Medallion - Quilts for Refugees: This week I finished up a quilt top for a special project. My friend from the Ottawa Modern Quilt Guild, Leslie, is organizing a local effort to make quilts to welcome Syrian refugees that have recently come to Canada. Berene from Happy Sew Lucky recently started an effort in Toronto, and Leslie was inspired! She has planned a sew-in day in a couple of weeks in Ottawa, but I’ll be out of town that weekend - so I wanted to do something that I could give to her before I left.
I had a bundle of “Soft Dreams” fabric from P&B Textiles that seemed bright and cheery and perhaps suitable for a child. I cut it up into a bunch of triangles, and just started playing around with them. I ended out deciding on a medallion style design, and added in white sashing between blocks to give it some extra interest (and a construction challenge for me!) I feel now that the fabrics are all together, it makes it look like a watercolour painting, which I really like. It finished up at about 50″ by 55″. I’ll have to sort out a backing still, and I’ll probably quilt it with organic wavy lines. I hope I can finish it before next weekend and get it over to Leslie!
