We know many verses from Ramayana is used as mantras. There are some mantras in which verse of Ramayana is partially used. We will see one such mantra in today’s article.
The verse from rAmAyaNa is
prasIda sumahAbAho trAyasva harisattama
the mantra is
saMjIva parvatoddhAra monoduHkhaM nivAraya |
prasIda sumahAbAho trAyasva harisattama ||
the mantra is found in vAnara gItA a psalm found in parAshara saMhitA after the dhyAna Shloka
in this mantra the verse from rAmAyaNa is used.
This is another proof that rAmAyaNa, especially sundara khAnda is full of mantras.
prasIda sumahAbAho trAyasva harisattama is spoken by lankini – the demon guard of lanka.
She after getting defeated in the hands of hanuman prays and praises hanuman and requests him to be pleased on her and protect her (by forgiving her)
The shloka in sarga 3 sundara kAnda
प्रसीद सुमहाबाहो त्रायस्व हरिसत्तम
समये सौम्य तिष्ठन्ति स्त्त्ववन्तो महाबलाः
"O long strong armed one! O the greatest among monkeys! Get pleased and protect me. O gentle one! Those with great strength and courage always stand firm on dharma (righteousness)."
From this shloka the previously mentioned mantra is derived.
Now let us see the meaning of this mantra
संजीवपर्वतोद्धार मनोदुःखं निवारय
प्रसीद सुमहाबाहो त्रायस्व हरिसत्तम
saMjIva parvatoddhAra monoduHkhaM nivAraya |
prasIda sumahAbAho trAyasva harisattama ||
O the one who have lifted the mount sanjeeva (the life-giving mountain) rectify the sorrows which occupy my mind. Be pleased o the one with great strong and long arms protect me O greatest of the monkeys.
Since you have lifted the Sanjeevaparvata and rectified the sorrows of rAma and the monkey army, I know you are capable of rectifying my sorrows, you are very strong, your arms are capable of destroying any negativity anything that is bad, so please rectify all the sorrows of my mind by being pleased on me ( I am a poor being who is incapable of pleasing you and hence I request you to be pleased on me) o greatest of the monkey army, o great hanuman please protect me from every kind of trouble and ill effects. Make me happy by rectifying my troubles.
This mantra becomes a prayer for rectifying all kinds of trouble, since the word mano dukham is used, it is also used as a prayer for rectifying psychological disorders or mental illness, to cure depression, stress and anxiety.
Since the lord is prayed in the form of sanveejaparvatoddhaara – the one who is holding the herbal mountain of sanjeeva, this is a prayer for healing and curing health issues.
This is also a prayer for protection and strength, we beg for strength by praying to the mahAbAhu – the one with strong arms,
