okay btw that wonder man issue fit into my headcanons well enough and supported some of my understanding of his character
full look under the cut
My first headcanon is that Simon is a very romantic asexual. He loves loves loves to flirt and go on dates but he doesn’t really initiate sex. My general thesis is that he only has sex for a few reasons: in his early days as part of his performative masculinity, if his partner wants to have sex, and as connection. (the first one as seen in the 80s and 90s, the second as seen more with Wanda and Carol, and that one time with Wanda in his solo)
And in a more recent comic he mentions “no means no” when talking about sexual consent on an adventure with Beast. So we know he understands or at least has heard of affirmative consent. So you would expect him to say something when in a sex scene (because he’s the kind of guy who cares about that) and the reason I surmise why he doesn’t do that is because the woman is initiating sex. And that plays into his own view of himself performing as a sex object and his view of himself as not having sexual agency but that’s a story for another time.
any wayyyyyy
First off we have a notable moment for another one of my Simon analysis theories which is that he leans into his status as a sex object or being objectified as a way to kind of “own” his body and his image but that’s also a story for another time
But I do believe here that patsy kisses him first. He probably can read romantic tension fine but i personally think that he wouldn’t go in for a kiss and he’d say something about power dynamics in f/m relationships or something
and we notice (specifically) that patsy unties his hospital gown, which means here she’s the initiator. Simon probably takes this as affirmative consent because he’s not very good at this.
And then I want to point out another note I have here: notice how patsy calls him an himbo and he’s “owning” it. A lot of his past stories deal with him being seen as less intelligent than he actually is. It might be that his knowledge is years out of date or that he runs in the same circles as supergeniuses so a regular smart guy doesn’t really match up that well. But this is a point of insecurity for him in the past.
he’s very smart, mechanically inclined, and he’s an inventor. His marvel rpg character sheet even has one of his traits as “gearhead”. As a Hollywood guy, his life is a constant performance for him. From masculinity to this now sex object persona.
And here he demonstrates great recall abilities but patsy is a little dismissive of him. I love you patsy but you have got to look past his exterior. I’m sure he would love a deep conversation.
although it’s not really her fault as I said before he kinda puts on this himbo persona because it’s what people expect of him.
Back when he died for the first time, if stark was Lockheed Martin he was Raytheon. They were competitors.
just some stuff I think about
