Patrick Sky Dies at 80

Patrick Sky, the folk-singing denizen of Greenwich Village and contemporary of Bob Dylan, Dave Van Ronk and others, has died, Rolling Stone reports.
Sky was 80 and died May 27. He suffered from Parkinson’s diseases and bone and prostate cancer.
Don Pedi played in a duo with Sky in the ’80s and the two remained friends. Pedi eulogized Sky as “great singer, songwriter and instrumentalist.”
“Patrick had a wry sense of humor,” Pedi wrote on Facebook. “He was full of bad jokes and good stories. … Wishing love and peace to his wife, Cathy, and son, Liam.”
A reluctant musician, Sky released seven albums between 1965 and 1985. At that point, he left the business, returning for one brief tour in the early 1990s.
Vanguard Records label-mate Eric Andersen was one of many musicians to cover Sky’s “Many a Mile" and said he plans to record “Nectar of God.”
“We are sending you big love and deep thanks for honoring us with your life and your music, dear amigo, Patrick Sky, now be safe on your journey home,” Andersen wrote on Facebook. “Don't forget us.”
