Matthew McConaughey finds riches in the Gold trailer

If you've ever wanted to see Matthew McConaughey as a balding, sweaty, ambitious prospector, then the first trailer for based-on-truth tale Gold will deliver all that you need, you weirdo. Take a look above.

Stephen Gaghan's latest film, which has a script from Patrick Massett and John Zinman, tells the story of the 1993 Bre-X Corporation mining scandal. The plot follows a rough-around-the-edges prospector Kenny Wells (McConaughey) who stumbles upon one of the largest gold mines in the world in the Indonesian jungle.

Wells is seemingly made for life, but his haul soon attracts attention, and things spiral into a mess involving Wall Street, the FBI and the Indonesian military.

Names have been changed for this one, but the story still promises to be a ripe one. Gold also features Edgar Ramirez, Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Kebbell and Corey Stoll. It'll hit US cinemas on Christmas Day, but we'll have to wait in Australia as there's no planned date here yet.

The writing duo behind 2001′s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider feature has been tapped to remake the Icelandic thriller, City State for New Regency.  Patrick Massett and John Zinman will pen the new version of Olaf de Fleur Johannesson’s 2011 feature.  We previously reported that directorJames Mangold (Walk the Line) would be moving onto City State after wrapping on The Wolverine.The story of City State follows four characters caught in the cross-hairs of a drug syndicate and juggles “a crooked police captain in love with a prostitute, an aging crime boss with a heart condition looking to get out of the game alive, a mechanic determined to avenge the death of his unborn child, and a female cop who is attacked by thugs and takes matters into her own hands.”  Hit the jump for more on City State.
