This is Patrick Beach, the Australian Goalkeeper for their opening WC match against Turkiye. He is only 22 yo. He made his international debut last November 2025, that was SIX MONTHS ago. I just read that Tony Popovic, the NT coach, picked him ahead of Matty Ryan, the official Socceroo Captain and previous goalie, who has actually been benched today. I also just learnt that Patrick didn't even start his career as a goalie and now he's playing at the World Cup.
And you know what?
Fucking great call. This guy has been BUSY today and produced five great saves. My MVP of the day.
