Here are some photos from my time at the 2nd Ani-on Digimon Adventure Tri Music Cafe! More pictures and some rambling under the cut.
I actually got to be there for opening day(!) and apparently didn’t get enough, so I went back the following week. That first Friday (9/8) was at full capacity, even at 2pm, and the hostess commented on my Togemon shirt, which was cool :) As you can see above, there were some display cases housing various merchandise and promos, like for the new WarGreymon figure (at first I thought the 15th Anniversary digivices might be for sale, but no, they’re just there to make you burn with envy!) Those giant Meicoomons were for sale, but I’m pretty sure they were all gone by the time of my second visit.
It might be a little hard to tell exactly what I ordered from the pictures, so here’s a list:
Agumon's Rumbling Mango Yogurt
Jou's Bright-and-Thank-You Ramen
Gomamon's Goma-Tching Shake
American Cafe recommended by Mimi
Palmon's Fluttering Flower Soda
Takeru's Homemade Patamon Cake
Patamon's Fluffy Hot Milk Tea
(By-the-by, a HUGE thank you to @bokutachinodigitalworld for their cafe translations. I would have been lost without them, both for ordering and making a reservation!)
The drinks were pretty good. No complaints on yogurt & mango from my partner, who ordered it. Both the goma-tching (black sesame) shake and the milk tea were very mild, so I blame my American sweet tooth for thinking they were a bit bland (you could definitely taste the black sesame though, which was nice!). My favorite was Palmon’s soda: the sorbet was DELICIOUS and it came with rose petals sprinkled on top, it was just a really tasty surprise!
As for the food, it was pretty decent, though not stellar (I hear this is within the realm of normal for pop-up cafes). My partner was not a huge fan of the ramen; I ate the egg, which was... yeah, there was something a little bit off about the texture. The Pata-cake was a bit dry, but I LOVED the presentation, and it came with both syrup and lemon sauce (I felt a little bad for eating that adorable Pata-face!). Once again, I’d have to say that Mimi’s item came out on top; I only ordered it because the name made me giggle, but it had so many delicious layers (flan, whipped cream, strawberries, cornflakes(!), and apple jelly), that it was by far my favorite! It also came with a tiny dish of bacon-wrapped asparagus because of course it would; it’s Mimi :)
I should also say that since this was a music cafe, they were playing the new character albums on random the entire time, and after orders had wrapped up, they showed us some video. There was an ad for Digimon Linkz, Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory, and then an expertly-cut-together summary of the first four Tri movies. I was HOPING we would get to see some new footage of Kyousei, but it was not to be. However, they DID play the new single (spoiler alert: it’s very nice).
Some more pictures:
These little guys were lined up in front of the registers, and each table had a plush as well! I brought my own Taichi and he was right at home :)
Today’s question (if you were there at night for the “radio show”). I think this more-or-less translates to “what was your introduction to Digimon?”
Each reservation included a comment card for you to answer the question. The DJ would read some of them out loud, and then they would go on the wall!
BIG GATOMON, plus a guestbook to sign. There’s some English from me in there (and a very poorly drawn Taichi).
My haul. Comment cards, coaster back, Digimon Linkz stickers, magnet clip, acrylic stands, coasters, and a Betamon gashapon from the machine in the lobby!
So yes. Overall, a grand first-time cafe experience, and one that I feel immeasurably lucky to have had in a two-week trip to Japan. If anyone makes it out to Tokyo or Osaka for Part 2 of the menu, I’d really love to hear about it!
