Paszek Downs Wozniacki in the First Round
Austria's top female player, Tamira Paszek, beat 7th seed Caroline Wozniacki in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships.Â
Paszek overcame her first set loss of 5-7 with an intense battle in the second set beating Wozniacki in a tie break after saving two match points. The third set also proved to be just as intense as the second set as Wozniacki broke Paszek's serve in the first game to have an early lead. But Paszek broke Wozniacki's serve three times to finally end up the deserved victor.
Paszek was the better player as she played more aggressively in contrast to Wozniacki's defensive style of play that proved to be too conservative in conditions that favored more aggressive play due to higher humidity levels from the Centre Court being covered by the roof from the rain. Â
She will now play Alize Cornet of France tomorrow.Â
Tamira Paszek won last week's Eastbourne WTA Event. It was her first WTA title since 2010.Â
Paszek's best result in a major has come in Wimbledon where she reached the Quarter-finals last year.Â
