11-13 year olds get a pretty bad rap, but these young artists have done nothing but astound me for the past 4 weeks. I have seen true friendship, dedication, and growth. I have witnessed moments of pain, moments of overwhelming emotion, and moments of spectacular discovery. These 4 weeks at Carrollwood Cultural Center have been some of the most fulfilling of my life. The world around us right now is pretty scary, and these kids are DESPERATE for a place where they feel emotionally safe. I can’t believe I get to do what I do and have even a tiny role in making them feel safer. Maybe someday the world itself will be a safe space.
