Remember our constellations? Now they have numbers and if you can name them, you'll get a small prize! And if you don't know them by heart, we've got some reference material available, too.

Iāve started this āIām back from my unannounced and quite sudden hiatusā post seven times. So much of being a young adult librarian is wrapped up in the āto beā category, where all the potential meetings, spontaneous programs, and general havoc live. Life in the fast lane, I guess. But, itās not as if I lacked material to write about. Quite the opposite. There was so much, be it programs or thoseā¦

Teens get sick. Some end up in hospice care. Some have mobility aids, some have hearing aids. And there are some who donāt even look sick. They get the stares from strangers, because no 17 year old needs a cane, and noĀ normalĀ 15 year old needs pain medication. (moreā¦)

At first, I thought,āwhat the heck will I use that for?ā Looking around at my fellow library staffers, I noticed theyĀ all carried some kind of notebook; some are simple, others are spilling over with reminders and ideas. I decided to follow suit. (moreā¦)

Dog VS Cat Month
We saw Hafubotiās awesome post ( http://hafuboti.com/2014/08/13/cats-vs-dogs/) on their Cat vs Dog event and we wanted to do a similar month-long event of stealth programming. One of my Childrenās Librarians put together an awesome window display featuring two popular pets, Pete the Cat and Clifford the Big Red Dog. We continued that blue cat, red dog theme and let families vote on their favorite pet on our office window. They chose an Ellison Die shape to represent their favorite pet and taped it to the window to vote. Dogs won! We also did a scavenger hunt in the Childrenās Department featuring popular cat and dog characters from childrenās books. Kids loved it. I added a binder at our early literacy table to encourage writing. Kids added a page to the binder, drawing their favorite pet and telling us a little about it. This format was a lot of fun and weāre planning our next theme for the fall.
