Passaic River. June 2023.
Bruce Springsteen with Clarence Clemons (and a tiny bit of Danny Federici) at the legendary show at Passaic’s Capitol Theatre, September 19, 1978, by Bob Leafe, my edit of original via telegraph. Bob has a great story about this on his website:
“On the right side wall of the Capitol, about 10-12 feet up and a few rows back from the stage was a booth (we called it 'the perch') where the lighting for the show was called. Sometimes, I would go up there after my up-front-in the-pit song-shooting allotment or to hide if I wasn't supposed to be shooting (which is sorta the same thing, now that I think about it).
“So I was up there with Moyssi, the lighting guy (he also designed all those wonderfully strange Capitol Theatre program covers). Bruce was crescendo-ing his way to the finish of the song.
As he reached back as far as I thought he could, I went to take the picture. In the split-second between when I made that decision and when I actually hit the shutter, he reached back even further and made the face that you see here.

'Wow! What did I just get?'
“I've taken other Bruce shots that I think are better, but none matched the feeling I got right after taking this one.”
