An inscription, given to me by a Japanese calligrapher, has hung on my studio wall in recent years and it says: “Though homeless, you make a shrine wherever you are.”

Denny’s of the Dunes. Important message.
PARTCH presents a virtual REDCAT show on June 4/5! We're premiering a series of new pieces, including one that I composed for gourd tree, cloud chamber bowls, adapted guitar, voices, and cello — performed by myself, Argenta Walther, Matt Cook, and Derek Stein. Here's a shot of us just a few weeks ago recording Harry Partch's piece, Castor & Pollux. Tickets at redcat.org. See you there!

The new Partch album is out on Bridge Records! It contains some of my favorite pieces by Harry Partch including “Twelve Intrusions,” a song cycle he composed while living in a remote cabin in Gualala, CA, and “Windsong,” a score he wrote for Madeline Tourelot’s film by the same title. Harry Partch’s sense of humor/mystery/storytelling is ever present in these pieces. They’re at once otherworldly and folky. These are qualities I aspire to in my own music and I feel grateful to get so close to Partch’s music by playing in this ensemble.
We'll be performing pieces from Sonata Dementia at MorYork in Highland Park next week. Come listen to me strum on the 44-string Harmonic Canon and grab a copy of our new album! Get your tickets here. See you at the show!
reallllllyy digging the partch right now. i’m in paris at the eastman theory/analysis course and this is soooooo refreshing after all this damn postserialpostspectral mumbo jumbo. seriously i think partch is the only american composer to represent actual american music without resorting to horribly kitschy americana. ok i mean this is campy but in the best possible way.
